    Hi everyone.

i got my zed on the road last week and fitted my old 20's.

theres a few things ive picked up which i can not figure out and i will try explain in as much detail as i can. If anyone has any idea's feel free to post.

    Problem 1:
From the drivers side, where the door hinges are, there is a strange noise coming from there as if water is bubbling in a tank... its kind of like a ..glug glug glug glug noise ... perhaps imagine a kettle full of water, when it heats up, bubbles begin arrising and it makes the boiling sound..
    what is it ?

    Problem 2:
most often when im stationary at the lights, just idling, the car shakes a lot and feels like it might stall, now i know there is a problem either with the injector or coil pack or something, because ive taken out the spark plugs and cleaned them up, tested them with the wipper snipper against a ground point to make sure they constantly spark ... but would a coil pack failure cause an imbalance in the idle ? i assume it would, yes ?

    problem 3:
When i take off, the car doesnt change gears untill very high RPM, perhaps 5,000, and im not even gunning it, perhaps just 50% throttle. .. and when it does change gears it gives the transmission a bit of a JOLT forward, its not a smooth transition between gears.
Also, when im cruising at 60/80km and i boot it, it kicks down to second and just revs a fair bit, most times it fly's off other times it kicks down to second, REVS it's tits off then jumps to third and gets moving .. but it's asif the transmission is "nervous" if that makes sense.. very sensitive and jolty..
is it a sign the tranny is on the way out ? is it a solenoid/s .. is it just me ?

    problem 4:
Sometimes when corner, the power steering cuts out, regardless of left or right hand turns.. if im going round a round-about, the steering wheel GRABS or BITES ... and it feels like the p/steering dies for a second then comes on then dies again then comes on .. asif the car's playing tricks and jolting the steering wheel.
Now i am quite certain there is no electronics when it comes to the steering rack and powersteering system. its meerely a pump that pressurises the rack and feeds oil to the according side to aid in steering .. or something like that.
is the pump wearing out ? are the oil lines blocked perhaps ? or is the steering rack busted ? BUT THERE IS NO OIL LEAKING FROM THE RACK..

    Problem 5:
when in bed my girlfriend often .... no im kidding theres only 4 problems.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Problem 1:

That will be your AIV's. They fill up with water. You can drain them or remove them. Check the tech section.

    Problem 2:
Probably coilpack or injector connectors. Clean and retention them. Check the tech section.

    Problem 3:
Check your TPS setting. Should be ~0.45V. Look in the tech section.

    Problem 4:
Dodgy PS control unit near the ECU, dodgy connectors on the back of the speedo or dodgy speedo sender on the gearbox. Have a search on the forum, plenty of talk about this.

Well heres an update on some .. if not, all of those problems.

I arranged a time to go see lindsay at the Z shop when he was free on Saturday and we spent a good 6 hours under my bonnet.

After several test drives, consult scans and data readings, we ended up giving a few sensor and control unit plugs around the engine bay a clean and file..

the idle control valve, TPS sensor, and a few other points in the engine bay which are reference points for the ECU's mapping.. we went through and cleaned, filed them all back so the ECU had solid contact throughout the engine - and to my "suprisement" .. there was a heck of a lot of green build-up around the contact points.

then we took out all the spark plugs and shortened the firing gap to 9mm, as they where way off. We put some new o-rings into the balance pipe, cleaned up all the carbon deposit/buildup in the Idle control unit with the little valve/spring ..

we took a good look under the car, all bushes and joints are A+, NOOOO oil leaks, no busted lines, cables, exhaust is ok, no rust (still standard) and we put on another little control unit gizmo onto the power steering rack as lindsay couldnt figure out any other possibility as to why my power steering keeps jolting and grabbing the wheel when cornering, unless the rack's taken a side impact and bent the shaft but we couldnt see any sign of a hit, so we assumed it was a electronics..

    - reset the ecu, adjusted the idle a bit higher

after all that examining, testing, cleaning .. and munching on staek sanga's !we went for a final drive.. and my god does the car feel AMAZING !

Lindsay said himself.. that the car is running very good for a non turbo, responsive, power!! and very good gearchange according to the consult unit.

the idling issue may be a faulty injector, its intermittent but hasn't played up since i left the shop. it idles like a baby now, smooth take-off.. BEAUTIFUL responce, and gearchange has calmed a heck of a lot. its no longer jolty or neck snapping, and the power steering does not grab or jolt the wheel anymore but sometimes if i begin turning into a corner the steering go's a little hard and constantly stayes hard ! it doesnt jolt in and out, which im happy with for now, at least its safer, and i know the steering wont do it's "own thing" when im cornering at 60km/h.

Big thanks to Lindsay if you ever get around this forum ? and i'll be sure to see him soon for some upgrades and servicing.

    Regards mate.

Next on the agenda, PAINT, then coilovers, exhaust, interior touchup.
