Factory/OEM Nissan Radiator Cap Replacement Question?

    Hi all,

I just purchased a new Nissan Genuine Radiator Cap Part # 21430-54P00 (Manufactured on 23 Nov 2006 and made in Japan) I removed the aftermarket CPC radiator cap which has been on the car since purchase, maybe just over a year. (I was not sure of the previous history of the cap and wanted to change it over just as a precaution).

    Observation:
I ordered the cap to suit my year car (Twin Turbo 1992) and was advised by the local Nissan dealer that the part number had been updated. The last section of the part number was lining up to a 1995 model and later according to the fish. So I referred to the microfish and yep, that was true so went ahead with the purchase.

    Question:
Now, comparing the two the aftermarket CPC one is a sort of anodised gold colour and has a '90' marking on it. The OEM one has a square orange sticker on it with a '1.2' marking on it. I shall assume the 90 means 90degrees in temperature rating and the 1.2 is a measurement in bar - would I be right here?

    Comparison:
When I fitted the new OEM one to the radiator neck/spout it was a much easier fit and turned fairly easily. The other aftermarket one was always a very tight fit. And to be honest the OEM one looked a little 'cheap' in manufacturing.

Anyone had any experiences like this??

No results to post up just yet as it is dark and would prefer 'testing' the new cap during daylight so as to easily identify any leaks or issues.

    Cheers, Kaz.

You're replacing a .90 bar cap with 1.2 bar cap. Nothing to do with temp., all about pressure. :D

I replaced my aftermarket 0.9 bar cap with an OEM

1.2 bar cap after I replaced all coolant hoses and did the 100k service. It looks great if you remove the orange sticker and polish it up with some autosol:D :D - Cheap bling:zlove:

    Radiator Cap Pressure Value

    Ahhh, now I see.

That makes sense now, if there had been a 'dot' before the '90' that may have twigged me to think. O.K. now I have a 1.2 bar cap - COOL!

Just hope it doesn't leak or something funny, because it wasn't that hard to do up, but did seem to fit snug.:D (Shouldn't comment here any further...)

Yep, I have some Autosol and some of that Meguirs high shine metal polish which works wonders on polished stainless exhaust mufflers - I'll attack it and see how it comes out.

    Thanks.

Just be a little wary about the cap. It was a $37 "OEM" cap from Nissan that popped off mine and caused the major overheat. When it's on try to pry it of with your fingers. Mine would come of easily when on one way, but not the other, if you get my drift.Meaured it up with my trusty digital verniers and found it was about 0.8mm wide across the tangs than my old original cap. After the re-build I reshaped it with pliers and vicegrips ,carefully, to make it fit firmly. Am currently using it and it fits firmly on the Koyo, the original radiator plastics my be a bit worn. Now thats cool:cool:

If you'r up and running, how about some pic's????. and Jetpower, as you can see I'm not into cheap bling:D

I bought a genuine 1.2 cap from Nissan for $35, a few months later and it held no pressure at all, switched back to a cheap aftermarket and all is well again.

2nded, as long as the rad cap jaws bite onto

the neck of the rad and the cap can't be 'rocked' off it will hold pressure. You may need to do what Baron did and slightly compress the new cap jaws to get the desired grip on the rad neck.

The old saying in the trade is that "slack jaws ruin nuts" and you can take that any way you like. Same principal here
