    Hi,

Over the weekend I repaired three stock Z digital clocks. I've also repaired many others over the years and now think I've got the wood on these devices. :D

Just curious if I should offer a clock repair service for say $20 each plus p+p. Conditional on the clocks having not been previously repaired or tampered by others.

    What are your thoughts?

    Cheers

    great idea!

can you tell if one is going to fail? or can you failproof it? i would rather make sure the clock on my zed in store is all good, small things like that are easier to fix now before it breaks rather than trying to get one in 10+ years time.

well done. This is a bargain considering the cost of a new clock!

    Not really.

There are three main areas of failure.
    1. Dry joints (and there are lots of them)
    2. Failed resistor(s), either a 100 ohm on the supply side or a 180ohm on the sink side.
    3. Failed electrolytic capacitor(s)

and the inevitable combination of above.

Repair time can be anywhere from 15 mins > 2 hours

    Cheers

John ... have you had any success with '93+ clocks? They employ micro-components.

    Rob,

Havn't seen any of the newer clocks. However, you will note that a similar senario arose with the ASCD mods. I was fortunate to have had help with the post 93 ASCD mods and I guess will cross that bridge again with clocks.

    Cheers

I may send you a '93 clock to look at, via a ZedFest attendee, not a priority.

I have a spare '90 model non-working clock that i don't need, and can donate to you to fix and add to your stock supplies to sell to a customer to support your venture here. What you are planning on offering will help many members out, as it's such a common problem for the stock clock to shit itself.

I'll bring it to Armidale aswell and have passed on to you with Rob's one if you like.

Me too! My clock shows random times each start-up, if it shows anything at all. Then the display fails after about 15 minutes.

    Update,

I've repaired a few clocks and by now and now think I've got the knack. So far so good except for a member who thinks $20 per clock is too much and won't pay. All other members have been very prompt. There always one bad apple?

So, instead of paying after the repairs have been completed will those interested please send me a cheque or postal order for $25 with their suspect clock (this price includes return post in Australia)

Please PM me for my address.

    Cheers

Finally a thread on the clocks!
I worked out clocks in zeds are a problem when I noticed sellers mentioning the clock works.
I'm in. Are they hard to get out?
