    Go the PDA!!

Sorry for pushing the idea.......but honestly for that price you could get a PDA phone set up in your car!.......will give you a phone, GPS navigation using Tom Tom software PLUS you get the benefit of ECU talk!!......so you can check on engine management sensors, clear error codes etc & have REAL TIME guages of your choice displayed as you drive!......it's the best idea!

I was really impressed when I saw Big Col's set up!!

I picked up a quality PDA HP phone from ebay for $300!!

    Food for thought! :)

I remeber mine when i went and grabbed it as soon as navigations hit the shelves i payed 1.1k for my shitty navman:p They've chaged alot since then however. Zedhead is right...ditch the navman...and go the pda instead. But if ur in the know then u'd already know that the navman runs on windows ce, all u need to do is configure the navman unit from auto booting into the smart st navigational software and instead bring up the windows interface as you would on a regular pda so u can use ecutalk and that, but u still wont have the functionality of a phone if thats what ya want. Save urself the stuffing around and grap a PDA and a bluetooth GPS reciever and a 'USB female A to male mini B" connector to plug into the PDA so u can use ur usb cable to connect to the car.

Dont go a serial cable like big col did, too much stuffing around grab one of these http://cgi.ebay.com.au/USB-A-Female...ryZ42322QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem

have fun....but this is the way to go, coming from a wanna b nerd!

that usb approach is pda dependent

Spot on Damien! I already had a USB conzult cable & one of those usb converters and it didn't work so I went the way outlined in the tech article. Besides, there's only 2 cables from Conzult port to PDA so I don't really think that consititutes stuffing around (plus 1 extra cable for power if you so wish).

    HP PDA's

the newer HP PDA phones have a GPS receiver built in!......but I think this is dependent on your phone service provider supporting this??......not sure yet?? I still need to look into it further!.......but the bonus about Col's serial lead is that you can also feed power into the PDA via the same adapter lead!.......so you can hardwire a cig lighter adapter & then only have the one lead to connect to the PDA for power & data!!.....so it takes a bit to set but is quite neat once it's all there!.......& Nightfall is right......not all PDA's support a USB plug........my HP 6515 connects to the desktop via it's own cradle which has the USB connection AND power all in one!

    Hope this helps? :)

are u sure about the mini plug not being on most Pda's? Because thats all i ever see. I know the downfall with this idea is you cant charge ur pda and use the usb at the same time unless you get a pda that has two different ports for inputs (data + power to charge), which isnt hard i dont think just got to research which ones, yeah?

Don't get too bogged down with the connector type - it is more than just that. The device must also be capable of being a USB host and these are much rarer than you would think (particularly if you are looking for a device that will satisfy all your buying criterea and not just finding a device with USB hosting).

That is why we are all going the way as described with the serial cable. As Russ has said, there is also the benefit of putting the PDA on full brightness while in the car on power without killing the battery in around an hour. Believe me I investigated all the other options available before buying a second conzult cable. IMHO this ended up being the most efficient method.

This is the PDA on the Navman site, so far I have a ticket price of $699 but they aren't on sale. Should still be able to got the $50 cashback from Whereis.

I have to wait to speak to the manager to get a GB price but would this PDA be any good for Ztalk Etc? I don't know anything about PDA's.

If all is good, I'll change this to a GB on this unit and see what I can do on the price.

from the international phone reviews, the HP GPS is very slow, even for walkers, 105KPH on the highway will give it a heart attack
