im buying some leader gears. a new run is about 2 occur within 2 weeks.
is anyone serious about purchasing these gears. if we get a few ppl we can get a discount.

Street 2 Strip is doing me a sweet deal AUD$1,140.00 delivered by air withing a week or you can be a stinge and pay 1040 delivered but takes 10 to 12 weeks.

any other questions plz direct them 2 Paul from STS :D

any one doubting them may want 2 consider this from there sight

"There are a couple of considerations you must be aware of before you purchase these gears.

    1. Your car will be faster. And without adequate traction you will not be able to put the power to the ground. "

I may be interested in these once I sell my house, predict february-march.

What rpm would we be doing with these in at 100km/hr in 5th gear?

I presume that these reduce top speed as a payoff for increasing accellaration. What is our top speed reduced to?

And any ideas on installation costs?

by my calculations. and for my car.

    TT manual
    255/45/18's
    with the 4.10 gears

    7000 rpm in first - 68kph
    7000 rpm in 2nd - 114kph
    7000 rpm in 3rd - 169 kph
    7000 rpm in 4th - 220 kph
    7000 rpm in 5th - 294 kph

    7300 rpm in 5th 307 kph

more than enough to lose your licence :D

EDIT . By the same calculations 100kph in 5th would be 2340 rpm

    110kph would be 2570rpm

These figures are for real speed too, not what your speedo indicates

My figures don't jell with yours .... car is a manual TT.

Firstly at 100kmh in 5th with the stock 3.69 TT ratio, my tacho reads 2500rpm. Therefore I would expect switching in the 4.10 gears should increase the revs to approx 2780rpm at 100kmh. My car has been GPS checked and the speedo is within 1 kmh at 80kmh, and the quarter mile trap speeds of 107mph fairly accurately reflect the 170kmh showing on the speedo.

Also, By extrapolating the same data in 5th gear, I would expect my Z to be reaching 280kmh at 7000rpm and 292 at 7300rpm. Installing the Leader gears should see those speeds fall to 252 and 262 respectively.

Not many circuits around Oz where this would be an issue for me.

my rolling diameter is significantly larger than stock

by my calculations the diameter of the stock 245/45/16 is
    626.9mm

    my 245/45/18 is 677.7

I am working from a 0.75 fifth gear ratio which i think is correct

Aaah OK then, your tyres are significantly bigger.

    Stock J-spec 225-50x16 rolling diameter = 632mm.
    My 255-40x17 = 636mm.
    Yours - 677mm, 41mm or 6.45% more.

Doesn't explain the whole difference but goes a long way towards it.

larger diameter wheels is effectively a gear in itself

by using them, you have on your car something that creates the opposite effect of the leader gears

in other words, if someone had smaller diameter wheels with the leader gears, then the effect would be enhanced... your top speed would be lower but you'd accelerate faster

alternatively, if you change the gearing in your box you'd get the same effect (more expensive tho, but if u were doing a rebuild then something to consider)

These gears are awesome! Mark Leader and Paul (STS) generously supplied some for the DriftZ. They have been fitted with a full spool (fully locked)and have performed faultlessly!.
The absolute hammering they cop in that car is testament to the quality of these gears.

    How long can you wait?

I'd be down for this say mid Jan.

How long were you going to keep this open for? Or how much of a rush are you in?
