I wanna be able to clean my engine but don't want it to not fire again which I have seem what has happened alot
A suggested translation: i have seen a number of posts where a member has washed down his/her engine bay using a hose or pressure washer .. only to find, post clean, that their Zed would not start/fire up. i need to clean down my engine bay so how do i go about this without the aforesaid problems ... ??? let's give that a run ... lol ... and in the meantime "give 'search' a run" ....
Good translation job Baz. Off to the UN with you now, you could be THE translator for all the young petrol heads of the world
Depending on how dirty it is, and the condition of your electrics, I would start by degreasing with a spray can and then a low pressure rinse, avoiding the coils and injectors as much as you can. If you have old brittle/corroded connectors you are asking for trouble though and they should be fixed first. If it was me and it was really in need of a clean I'd pull the motor so you can get to the engine bay and easily clean the rest of the engine by hand without the loom in the way.
lol..."Pull the Motor" is just the standard aus300 response these days. I have smoke from my exhaust - "Pull the Motor" I have a coolant leak - "Pull the Motor" I'd like to clean my engine bay a bit - "Pull the Motor" looking forward to the "I need to get my seats recovered" with the answer of "Pull the Motor"
Btw, i'm looking to change my tail lights, does that mean i will have to pull the motor as well? Not sure how to go about it so i though this was a great idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyG_3Qlnuek [TIS]
If you want to clean the engine bay up and make it shiny I suggest Inox. Around $10 from Supercheap. It is the best thing money can buy ! Even use it to shine up my wheels and interior time to time. Car looks like its show room spec
Like they said in the posts, these cars dont like water in the connectors, so if you were careful you could leave it idling just say, degrease spray first then as he says wash most of it off, by not trying to wet the electrics, but be careful can short it or suck water up something it shouldnt like, dont spray the pod filter etc
In all seriousness, the very best way to get a great clean, is to do it at the same time as a plenum pull. While the plenum is off, soak it in degreaser, and hit the rest of the bay with a rag and degreaser. While the plenum is off you have much better access to everything.
I've seen some zed bays that definitely need a motor pull for a decent result. There are some real shockers out there. Put it this way, I reckon most cars that are in that condition need the motor out anyway for a multitude of reasons
What does anyone recommend to clean the under body of the Z? Mine has built up with a lot of black stuff (not being racist !) over the years... I was thinking of maybe taking it to a self serve car wash and jacking it up. Any suggestions?
You mean the under body sound deadener? Thats not coming off with a hose. If it's grime then I would go get yourself a karcher/gurnee etc which can pass through degreaser and use that. Let it soak and then blast it off.
