    Hey guys.
Succesfully dropped in my new engine last night,
currently hooking up all the wires and hoses etc and trying to remember where everything goes!
atm I've only got one question,
but rest assured there will be more to come!
Ok so can anyone tell me the two points that the earth cable (the one that drops down the back of the engine) attaches?
I'm pretty sure one of them is the little bracket where the egr pipe goes into the headers, where's the other one?
I was thinking possibly one of the bellhousing bolts??

One goes into the head (near the EGR bracket) other goes onto the top left gearbox bolt. ;)

Also if your box is not attached just use a trolley jack with a block of wood under the sump to tilt the motor forward a bit makes it alot easier to hook up the harness to the idle control unit.

Photo below, bigger one of the two wires bolts on to the topmost bolt encircled in green. I'll try to find a photo of where the smaller wire exactly bolts onto to make it easier for you finding it. It's actually that bolt on the top left of the photo. Just so freakin' difficult doing things on iPhone!!! Can't edit my picture to put a mark on it. Give me a buzz...

    All sorted
    cheers guys =]
it was pretty much just the bottom one I wasn't sure about.
Wasn't easy to get them on.
The engine and gearbox are both all bolted in.
But thanks to my little girly hands I managed :p

    Next question!
The wire that drops down the driver side back of the engine,
    where does it attach?

The best tip I can give is that wires that have been sitting in one position for 20 years have a 'memory'. So easiest way to work out what goes where is to count the number of pins/holes in the connector, then look at how it all bends. Even just holding it up, then letting it fall into place will give you a good idea of where it should fit.

As foir the DS engine wires... if its got a white cable attached to it, its the VTC solenoid (fit in to the back of the cylinder head). If it goes down further, its likely to be the O2 sensor connector.

Yeh most of them like to sit where they were originally.
The one I'm talking about tho is the big thick cable that runs right down the back of the engine on the drivers side.
It connects to a little bracket on the egr pipe, it has a little rubber boot over the connector at the bottom of it.
Just not sure where that bit connects to

Ok she's up and running :D
    still more questions tho :p
I need to set the timing,
the timing light I have is the kind that clips over
    an ignition lead.
Obviously the zed doesn't have ignition leads....
Any way to get around this?
Or do I need a different sort of timing light?
Also the engine is pretty damn ticky.
Is this normal for a rebuilt engine?

Clamp it over the wiring to the coilpack on cylinder 1 (closest to the front on the drivers side).

Ok I'll give that a go tonight.
Any ideas as to why its ticking so loud?
I let it idle for about half an hour and it didn't get any quieter.

Depending on your timing light, it may not work by clamping it over the wiring. Remove #1 coil pack and fit a normal plug lead between the coil pack and spark plug, then hook up the timing light as normal.

The engine has sat for a while since being built, the hydraulic lifters will take quite a while to bleed up. Longest I've had the lifters tick is 1.25 hours and that included a test drive. No idea how long that engine sat since being built as the customer supplied it.

    Ok sweet.
    Thanks Eric.
I've got some plug leads lying around so I should be able to give that a go.
