only had my 91, 300 for 6 months and am not very mechanically minded, Just found out i need a complete rebuild due to a previous doddgy mechanic b4 i bought it. Ive been quoted $8000 to completly rebuild and machine almost everything by Nissport, just trying to find out if this company has a good rep and if this price is responsable:s
A quick question or two.... ...have you thought about sourcing another 2nd hand engine for half the price? As for it costing that much for a complete overhaul it would not surprise me, as you would basically have a brand new engine. What kind of warrenty will you get for the rebuild?
yes company is reputable search will verify and price seems to be the going price. If you dont want to spend that much drop in a 2nd hand engine.
12 months not fully discust 12 month i think. really want to keep the car and 2nd hand enginge means you could run the chance of it happening again. so sounds right for the price, thank for the help.:-0 i think i'm on a step learning curve
I have all my work done at Nissport including little things and big things. The biggest being the removal of my engine, replacement of head gasket and 2 new heads (+ all new hoses etc etc). Have never had a problem with Joe working on my car. Does his job extremely well and is vey fussy about his work. I would say $8000 is about right for an engine rebuild. I was quoted the same price last year, but thanfully didnt need to spend the full $8000. My car will be down there this week to get my headers installed..Cheers
I also had a NA engine rebuild at Nissport.. a few months ago, and was there on Friday for the required 1000km service after a rebuild - and the car has never run better in the 5 years I've had it.In my case the car wouldn't even start any more, as the values were worn and the cylinders were lossing pressure... I would of prefered to spend the money elsewhere, but a Z is not much good to me parked in the garage! What I had done cost around $6000 in total (and about 3 weeks), which was:N.A. Engine Rebuild:Engine gasket set Welch plugs set Rings set Bearings set O2 sensor x 2 Head plugs Water pump Thermostat Bypass hoses Plenium hose set Knock sensor loom Rod case rack tensioner, idler bearings Surfaced block Heater, top and bottom hoses Radiator refurbished Drive belt set Recoditioned Heads New valves Oil jets [image]http://members.optusnet.com.au/rbarciko/300zx/engine-large.jpg[/image]cheers, Rob
Mate, the only thing to say about Nissport > is that I wish they were closer to where I live.I spent 6 months trying to diagnose a problem with my mechanic just over a year ago... he charged me $50 per 'look' even though he was a friend and ended up getting me nowhere. To cut a long story short:Then along comes Jedi-77, who I'd seen on the road before... <putt putt putt> goes the Z as I try to catch up with him, give him a wave, and notice the www.aus300zx.com sticker... Visit here, ask the question, get put onto Nissport... Within *1 DAY* I had a call back, with a quote, telling me how much to fix and what the problem was.Even not long ago I took the car there to be looked at... I *swear* Joe has magic fingers. He ripped all the coil paks out, took the cover off and compression tested my car, then had everything bolted back in within 7 minutes FLAT. And after that, the car ran better...If I had to choose anyone to be my mechanic for life, it'd be Joe at Nissport. If I were you I'd take the Z in there... You *won't* be disappointed. :-Z
Agree, all my work done is at nissport and in the next couple of weeks it will be there again to get some more stuff done. Joe knows his zeds.Max
big thanks for all your help. hay big thanks to all you guys. after having a big chat with Spencer from Nissport we sat down and he explained the hole process and went through each part of the engine to show what was wrong and what it should be like. so i'm even spending a little more to get it ported and new throttle control. pumped for the result.
just a few things brakes, suspension, comp check and a few other things, little bits and pieces. By the way, when are you getting your headers done?Max
