Had a look at my engine internals today the bottom end is all good but the heads had some good heat on them and the pistons have started melting only on top. The mechaninc has told me that it could have been the possibility tha there was some air stuck in the heads and possibly caused the problem. I am trying to get to the bottom of the " Cause " of the engine failure not the way to fix it. Does anybody know of any faults or weakpoints on a tt engine, common problems anything that would result in the piston rings welding themsesves into the pistons.Cheers fellas!

    Cooked engine

Running to lean, running without water, running without oil, any of the above or all three will do the trick.:N(

If your pistons are melted only on top..

I'd hazard a guess and say it would have been caused by detonation. What did the plugs look like when you pulled them?
