Drove my car today, my stock boost gauge wont work, the light and hicas light stays on. The car wont idle high on cold start, and rough idle when hot at around 650 rpm. Seem to be using more fuel than usual. Checked fuse it was blown replaced it. Drove it and it blew again. Any ideas why, and how to find the reason why. Cheers Bigmax.

    Hey Mate

Would seem you have a short circuit somewhere - most likely its related to one of those circuits where they all connect at the same point- I cannot think of where they all connect at the fuse box together off hand, so it may be at the ECU itself given they all connect there. ;)

I don't think there is no relationship between the extra fuel use and your short circuit unless its a TT and its in safety mode for some reason or its effecting the IACV or EGR etc - this would imply your problem could be at the ECU as well.

This is a difficult one given what you have stated! ;)

Your ECU controls your inputs for your idle from your EGR/IACV etc - this is where I would be looking to start with.

HAVE YOU DONE ANYTHING WITH THE WIRING RECENTLY???
HAVE YOU HAD AN EARTH PROBLEM RECENTLY? (fried ECU)

Given its a very strange problem, you might actually need an auto electrician to help on this one.

Sorry I cannot help any more at this stage. :(

    Good luck

    thanks superzed

Thanks superzed for your input. Have not had any wiring issues in the past, its not in safety mode and the egr has been removed. Looks like a auto sparky is the go. ps I have a tt.

    Hi ,
I wonder if you have a couple of problems. Hi-cas light may be low power steering fluid. Rough idle and fuel use could be related to a dodgy e.c.u temperature sensor ( the 2 wire one ) or corroded terminal on the plug. Blowing fuses is a tricky one but recently someone posted a question about the same fuse and they got some specific likely causes so hopefully the same people read your post soon.
    Cheers

Very basic circuit controlling multiple sensors and actuators. VTC solenoids, 02 sensors, IACV, AAC and a couple others as well. Check VTC solenoid wiring and 02 wiring for shorts. These are the most common causes.

Is this the same fuse that keeps blowing(the one you mention in your post about HICAS/Fuse problems)?

    Re: Fuse blowing.....

The fuse is blowing because the current passing through the fuse is excessive.:(
You need to test the circuit or circuits that are downstream of the fuse.;)
To do this correctly, you will require a multimeter & a circuit diagram, the latter can be found in the Service manual.:)

The HICAS has an ECU controlling it, probably a good idea to check this ECU for logged fault codes with ConZult.;)

I had the exact same problem minus the hicas and brake lights. what you need to do as stated above is to get a wiring diagram, a multimeter and check the wiring diagram for the circuit and you probably find a wire is broken or pinched or just worn. From memory i think VTC solenoids, 02 sensors, IACV, AAC are conected to the engine control fuse. With mine it turned out that one of the cam solenoids was faulty which caused errattic idle, excessive use of fuel and sometimes smoke, while also melting the 10amp engine control fuse.

Drove my car yesterday. Took a trip up the country. Hicas light still on, and lights still on, everything seems to work ok even idling seems to be around 800 mark. Only thing is on cold start it wont high rev to around 1200 then drop to 800 as it should.

Fuel usage was not too excessive as i am running 740 injectors. The power seems ok the fuse is still blown, but does not seem to effect the running of the car to much. But i am sure it must be doing something, maybe fuel air mixture etc. Other wise why have it. Any ideas what else it could be effecting. Going to an auto elec next week to sought it out. Cheers Bigmax.

Also noticed battery light was just glowing slightly, not fully on. Not sure that has any relation to fuse problem.
