ECUTalk Consult LCD V2 Display

Ecutalk install pics

I found some time today to fit the ecutalk unit into the lower DIN.

I installed it into the DIN pocket. I cut a hole in the top of the pocket the size of the unit and slipped it in from the top. A nice snug fit stops it from moving about. If it was loose it would be easy to pack some material in behind it to hold it steady. I cut a hole in the back for the lead and ran the lead behind the cover under the steering wheel to the plug.

Visibility from the driver's position is excellent. I found no need to tilt it up or swing it towards the driver seat.

You can see in the second picture that there is a 1cm gap each side of the unit which tapers back towards the back of the unit. Its looks fine and is actually barely noticeable as it is all black in there when you are not pointing a flash at it.

You will note that the unit is recessed into the DIN slot by a couple of centimetres. This makes the readout really clear, even in bright sunlight. I reckon this would be a good install method for people with blue readouts. I went for green because I need glasses to read these days and I wasn't sure if the white on blue would be defined enough for me.

Tools required: stanley knife to cut the hole, dremel to trim and make hole at rear. Allow about an hour to complete the job.

the green display should get easier to see with more sunlight (you wont even notice the backlight is on), whereas the blue gets harder

 

The missus said mine turned up yesterday... will give it a shot on the weekend.

i havent got the final transfer from bonezx yet (should come tomorrow), but to save my eardrums and sanity from further nagging i came home from work early and got the last ones done!

however, they were after the 6pm cutoff, so not sure if they made it. Adamness one almost certainly did it (it was the guinea pig for first post box - since he wouldnt have got it tomorrow anyway being outside network) and when i could tell it was empty, i went to another which possibly hadnt been collected (didnt sound like it dropped as far) and posted the rest.

so fingers crossed everyone else (if theyre in next day network) will get theirs tomorrow (otherwise monday), and Adamness probably by tuesday.

i have a green one available now, it comes with 256mb sd card installed (roughly 10hrs worth of logging id guess, if logging is added in future firmware update), the catch is its stuck in the socket and i cant remove it (you wont need to remove the card to access the logs or anything else, youll download them via the usb socket, as the logs wouldnt be written in PC readable filesystem).
