Dust Buildup on the Zed Paint Work

    Hi all,

I had an interesting experience the other day after washing my Zed. Normally I use one of the 'synthetic' style chamois to dry off the remaining water and give a nice finish. The last time I washed it, I used the Meguiars style of chamois - which is sort of a mix between a leather type and microfibre type. I noticed that the dust build up after a few days was very minimal compared with all the other times - the dust had a tendancy to just 'slide' off than stick. Now this is something big for me as a black Zed is just a dust magnet. I considered the type of weather we have been having here and eliminated that as nothing was vastly different - probably more wind and airborne dust than normal.

So my reasoning is that perhaps the the synthetic style chamois leaves a small electrical static charge on the paintwork. Which then does actually physically attract the dust to it.

Just a thought anyway, has anyone else had similar experiences like this?

    Thanks.

P.S. Hey Zanjara you may have seen this before;)

What I read is don't use those synthetic chamois to dry the car. Instead use only microfiber towels and change to a new ones once the old one is dirty etc. as that way you don't grind dust into the paintwork.

You lazy boi! Wash them and use some fabric softener, no need to keep buying them unless you're absolutely LOADED! (ok maybe that's not what you meant but I still want to say it :p)
    :bash:

By the way, keeping a nice layer of wax, or polish on the black paint makes it slippery and keeps dust from sticking to it too. I just bought one of the new Meguires dust mops and use that to wipe off the dust from the zed, then some quick detailer to touch up other spots of dirt. No need for a full wash all the time unless it's been raining.

Oh, wash them of course...but DON'T use fabric softener. While they may "feel" softer, the chemicals in softener actually make them less absorbent from what I read on another site about car detailing.

    BTW, I have a well-maintained Z, so of course I'm loaded :p
