Umm yer, I didn't think it through properly. Sorry.

Get a NA diff, otherwise you will be selling that one-piece you just got.

just checked. Zero play on the gearbox end. About 8-10mm play on the diff end. Maybe 15degrees rotation. Less than i thought but its not zero like the gearbox end..

Does this still sound substantial enough to pin it on the diff?

I will have an NA diff out of the 95 in a week or so. I will pull the diff out unless someone wants a whole NA rear end

Shifter I think is fine. I noticed it yesterday when the driveshaft was out and nothing out of the ordinary..

thanks Tekky, ill probably take you up on that.

Any ideas on how to confirm thats what it is? It sounds pretty solid. Only happens when moving. Throttle absorbs it. Driveshaft is fine. Bit of play in the diff.

Thats probably enough of a hint right? Im gonna put it all back together and have another bit of a drive, confirm when it happens, and see if i can add anything to it.

ok ive booked it in at the mechanic for in a few days time so he can confirm that its the diff. Then if its definately the diff ill bring it home and start collecting parts.

What would you guys recommend changing while im replacing the diff. Theres 3 seals, front and one either side correct? Also theres some bushings, would it be necessary to replace these or will standard suffice?

I would like to get this fixed as cheaply as possible. But if a 10 dollar seal means the new diff can stay udner the car an extra 5 years then all is well. Im jsut not too sure about bushings, what they do and their life expectancies/ replacement rates.

    hi all

i have just developed a very similar problem, my makes the same sort of clunking noise that attila.z has described but mine makes the clunking noise regardless of throttle position.( on or off, full or part throttle )

do i have the same diff problem???

all so i got under the zed today and when in gear the drive shaft has about 5 degrees give in it.

    thanks guys

If you have a 2 piece driveshaft, have a look at the driveshaft mounts or the centre bearing.
