My drivers side taillights have stopped working but the drivers side brakelights are still working. Anyone got anny ideas? maybe a fuse or something. Passengers side are both still working and both globes are fine. I've checked the wiring as far as I can see and there isn';t a problem Thanks
Id re check the globe and clean the contacts. If it was a fuse both sides wouldnt be working. My front right indicator stops working sometimes and its always a case of the contacts getting gunked up.
If it is not something obvious like blown globes, fuses or dirty connections, it is probably the dreaded black box. I first discovered the black box when I lost my driver's side rear lights too. You can easily bypass the black box and if the lights then work, you will know your problem is inside the box. Here is a pic of the internals of the box, with labels on the pins. Make up a piece of wire with an insulated spade terminal on each end. Disconnect the box and stick your wire terminals in the socket to connect up the RH Tail pair as shown in the diagram. If the lights come back then you will know if the problem is the box. The boxes can often be revived by taking them apart and running some fresh solder along the printed circuit tracks, with special attention to the component joints. If that doesn't fix up the box then make up two more bridging wires for the LH Tail and Stop lights sets and leave the bypass in permanently (ignore the fourth set of contacts). Or you could buy a new black box - Coz has them.
Very good stuff to know! Great thread! I have fixed a few of these buy re-soldering the connections to the PCB but never took the time to figure out which wires did what.
