afternoon all im posting here for a friend who owns a 92 300zxTT
he is looking at replacing his stock intercooler with this 600x300x80mm intercooler

is it possible for me to add to extra intake ports on the tanks, for the twin turbo application, or will this cause unforseen problems, thankyou

    AndyMac Better than you

    Unforseen problems i would think...

I could be wrong as intercoolers are pretty much a theory based knowledge on my behalf...

Isn't the intercooler designed to flow thru the core directionally? It's not just a big box with holes either end, even if it was you'd get a lot of turbulance and probably a large pressure drop.It won't be a case of cutting and welding two holes and adapters on the ends, you'd have to split the core somehow and esentially design your own intercooler...much better to buy one designed specifically for twin turbo app.

    Blipman Beer hooves totally work

    Andy's on the right track

but I don't think got the point across as well as he'd like? The flow from both turbos must be kept seperate, so if you were to put new tanks on they must not join. The left turbo flows from the left side of the intercooler into the right, then to the intake, and the right turbo flows from the right side of the cooler to the left. If the tanks weren't seperate you'd have the left turbo feeding the right end tank and going straight through to the second right intercooler outlet and into the intake without ever actually flowing through the core. Anyway I'm not doing much better than Andy here :) , bottom line is it can be done but not without someone who knows what he's doing and how the air flows around a Z taking part, or there could be trouble.

    thanks for the advie

thanks guys, since he doesnt have money for a $2000+ twin turbo FMIC the only options are really to replace the two stock intercoolers with simply large ones, although that wasnt really his idea. or to simply make an aluminium bracket to stack two 600x150mm FMIC on top of each other.
i could seperate the two tanks into 4, but my confidence in tig welding isnt that great since its been a few years.

    anymore suggestions are welcome, thankyou
