been looking through some older threads about this but most pictures up have broken links.

so anyone got some new pics of some din slot gauge installs ???

if you purchased a din slot kit where did you get it from ???

pros and cons of this install ???

i currently have a pilla mount but im thinking of taking this down and having 3 gauges installed in the din slot...

    thanx

I like the 3 gauge din install and I have done it on one of my Zeds. I have a pic somewhere.

    My observations:

    1. that commercially available three gauge stepped gauge DIN panel is a piece of rubbish. I didn't know aluminium could be fabricated that thin. I could bend it by looking at it sternly.

    2. it is easy to make up a flat plate to blend into the radio surround panel with some filler. Some adjustments for clearance inside the radio surround were needed in my case because of the depth of the gauges.

    3. when driving at night with the targa inserts out, you get a big reflection of the gauges off the targa glass which spoils the starry, starry night effect (apologies to Don McLean)

    4. overall verdict, well worth doing.

This is what we have made for Wooshka's car, the only one in existence because it is a rapid prototype form.

It is plastic, gauges are angled toward the driver and fits nicely in the din slot. Looks very well integrated, not like those cheap crap alloy things.

If this is enough interest, more could be made but I would need a fairly hefty order to make injection moulding worthwhile. The rapid prototype is ok, but a little fragile if not handled correctly.

Ok. there is obviously interest, let me do some foot work to calculate potential cost and production numbers. Once I have some more info, I will put a post on the forum.

    Sorry for the hijack Chad.

Yes they are 52mm. You would not get a bigger gauge in the slot and have it fit neatly.

thanx for the info guys. wizard id love one of those but there expensive and not the gauges that i want to get. i want water, boost, oil temp for trans.

drz400y do you have any more closer pics??? ive been searching around and most or almost all din slots never fit properly or look anywhere near great.

i want it to blend in very well with the cluster and look subtle and stock like its meant to be there.

can you make them for the upper din slot ?? im thinking about putting them in the upper din. but then im not wanting it to stick out too much and it looks like the bottom din has more depth in it. what is ur thoughts on this ??? when you make them will they be to fit in either the top or bottom or just one specific din?

    im keen

this is someone elses that did them in the uppper din:

I had the gauges installed in the upper din in my previous Z. Din panel wasn't great though and I was never really happy with the fit or the finish.

It was made specifically for the lower din slot, to get the gauges on the correct angle it would foul the head unit if in the upper slot. There is also not enough room in the upper slot for the left hand gauge to angle over far enough unless the whole panel sticks out alot more.

This one being a rapid prototype, the finish is not smooth, due to the way rapid prototype's are layered. The moulded piece will have the same finish as the surround so will look like a factory part.

Pending production cost, I may look into having a remodelled unit made for the upper slot but it will require cutting behind the panel where the left gauge sits.

ahh ok no problems. yeah it doesnt look good sticking out at all. and the finished product having the same finish at the cluster would be perfect.

look froward to seeing more on this
