Just a quick question, The diff pinion nut at the front of the diff where it just sits ontop of the companion flange, on a NA is it critical that the proper torque be applied ? I dont have a torque wrench, wondering if I have to grab one now Not sure if its done up too tight, if that would put additional wear on other bearing/gears etc. Thanks in advance!
IF its over tightened it will overload the pinion bearings causing premature failure. Just had a look at the FSM and you have nothing to worry about Tighten nut to 186-294 Nm Its the TT diff that has a collapsible spacer to set preload NA is shimmed so your fine
Cool the shims handle the preload so I should be okay with just very firmly tighten (not crazy overtight) up the pinion nut without torque wrench. I've already starting reading up on inner workings on diff's now, pretty interesting topic.
