and when I got home, I could hear a tick tick tick tick noise coming from the car. Cant hear it from inside the car, only when you get out. I instantly thought lifter noise, but would some high revs cause lifter noise?? It doesnt do it when cold, only when the car is warm and at idle. Also, the lifters are fairly new as I had the heads replaced about 7 months ago. If its not the lifters, any other suggestions?? It seems to be coming from the drivers side.Cheers

    It probably is your lifters......

...you probably need to find a thicker oil for high temp use. What grade oil do you use?. Could possibly be an injector problem, or maybe an exhaust leak

I get lifter noise when. ....>

I drive up my steep drive way at about 2 km/h (well really slow) because its a lime stone drive way and its bumpy and rocky and I don't want to hurt the Z much.
But as I get to the steepest bit if I stick my head out the window I can hear what I think is lifter noise. Once I level off it's gone. About 1,000 - 1,200 RPM or less going up my hill.

    PCV valves....

mine make a big tic tic noise at idle. Its the valve moving back and forth. Before I had the rest of the hosing on I could stick my finger on the valve and make it stop and it was louder so pritty obvious.

Take them off and if they rattle they are ok

When i had mine off, they were locked shut, i couldn't even push the little valve down. Put them in petrol mixed with carby cleaner and they came out like new after a few minutes.

    Can take the hose off...

if its able to come off ok. The noise will be louder and clearly coming from there. Maybe try squeezing the hose if you cant get it off to close it and see what difference it makes. Maybe try listening with a stethescope or screwdriver or whatever. Be creative :) If its the PCV valves making the rattle then you will figure out a way to check them now you know its a possibility :)
