just a quick question in relation to the Detonation sensor circuit bypass
i did the bypass...came up with an error code 55 (all systems go) then started the car...checked error codes again (with ecutalk) and the error code 34 re-appears...is this valid or is the bypass successful?

Did you clear the codes with ecutalk?

If so then unsuccessful. The actual fault may be in the wiring between the resistor and the ecu, or you just used the wrong resistor.

i think the guy gave me a 1K resistor instead of 1 meg ohm....this is wrong yes?

yep, wrong. that 1k resistor won't do squat. you definately need a 1mohm resistor, either a 1/4 or 1/2 watt will do fine.

You could also reposition the det sensor (buy a newie and install at back of plennum) as many have done as temporary measure, without the risk of a bypass!

perhaps you've already considered this and other reasons negate this option?

    good luck

i bought the correct 1 meg ohm resistor today...installed it...and same thing
error code 55 when engine is off
    while engine is running...error code 34 re-appears...
any suggestions as to why it is doing this?

probably a pierced or warn wire between where that connector is in the engine bay, and the ECU connector in the pass side footwell. most likely earthing out on the body which will give faulse readings to the ECU hense getting error code.

Try a continuity test using multimeter from both det sensor wires at the connector and the body first to see if one of them's earthing out, if it is that's your problem, if it's not earthing out, then you've probably got a crack/split in one of the wire. So then try a continuity test from the ECU pins to the connector pins in the engine bay to make sure the signals getting through.

for some reason i dont think the connection between the ecu and the connector in the engine bay is faulty...

when i take the resistor out...its code 34
put the resistor in, turn on the reds: code 55
turn on the engine: code 34
turn off the engine, turn on the reds: code 55
how can this be if it keeps returning to a code 55

after i check with a multimeter i will double check but just curious...can i get confirmation on which pin in the ecu i test...is it hard 2 replace the wiring??

i had a similar problem, you have to install the resistor THEN clear the ecu by shorting out pins on the consult plug, there's a writeup somewhere it's easy otherwise you keep getting code 34 pop up.

1.short two pins for 3 sec with your key turned to ignition (just before you crank the starter motor) the engine light on your dash will start flashing, this is showing you error codes just the same as the led on your ecu.

    2. short again for 3 sec engine light will stop flashing now your error code memory has been cleared.

turn car off and repeat step 1 your engine light should give you five long flashes and 5 quick ones if all is good ( the hallowed code 55)

    enjoy
