Deleting polution gear and queries on black box

Hi all,
As stated above, tidying up the engine bay and deleting pollution gear.
I am wandering what the black canaster under the EGR solenoid is and does?
Can anyone educate me?

Be remove by using a non turbo master, also it's a good idea to replace all the piping with a single piece braided clutch line
