The "Lemon & Dog" car guide (can be found at most newsagencies) states that the NZ fraud squad (I think?) estimates odometers being wound back in the case of 70% to 90% of all jap imports!!!   Some being done before export from Japan, and some being done before sale/compliance in NZ.

So more than likely, your "low km" car has a lot more milage than you think.

well mine definitely had not had a Timing Belt replacement and had not had the plenum off since new, and i bought it at 103XXX, i dont know how long a zed will alst without this stuff but that has to be some sort of a good sign

never heard a nissan engine died at that kms. in particular a VG30 (DE)..the best ten engine ever invented on earth according to Ward..USA.

ward's best ten engine from 1995 to 2001 until taken over by the VQ series..which are based on the same platform..either severe abuse before that or kms has really been wound down .post-mortem will tell all...

my family has been in the nissan tradition since the emergence of 120Y. you basically has to knock a nissan engine with a sledge hammer to kill them...

Even you couldnt kill my car fate, i had you in it and its still alive (Touch wood that it stays alive) i think my car is a cat and has 9 lives, its already been through three in my brief ownership
    1. Thought to be blown but miraculously came good
    2. Sean sat in my car but miraculously my turbos and gearbox are still in one piece
    3. An incident involving a celica still couldnt kill it

Sounds like its time to do a TT conversion:biggrin:

I have seen pistons hit valves after a big end failure so it can be done, you wont allways see smashed valves but some sort of contact is pretty much on the cards.

Yep, its definitly a sad time... :(

I can cofirm now that the Z has had the pants flogged off it before i bought it. Just one month after i got it, it needed a clutch replacement. then shortly after cylinder 5 died. e whole time my diff has been shot and has slowly got worse... so from this, i can gather that it has been used for drifting, which has f@$ked it.

Haha, i accept your apology Sean. i know you don't have any intention of using your starange voodoo powers of Fate on me... i must have seen too many msn pics of you in nothing but your tie and hat  (only from the waist up, mind you)

Benny, i would love some drinks at your place when its finished and you've moved in. I must say, its looking good :) i like that you've gone linea board instead of brick, just for something different. Haha, the first project on the TT once i get one will still be the gauge rings and LED's... haha, im kinda glad i haven't installed them now. i don't think it would be easy to get my hands on another set!

And i've been taking full advantage of being able to drink Trent :D been hitting it up pretty much every night since the engine did itself in... and sure, you can drive me :D i might see what your up to tonight actually :D

so yeah, i've started saving towards getting her fixed up, and then shes to be sold and replaced with a TT. I'm hoping to get one the same gunmetal colour as mine, 2+2 thats fairly standard... i'd hate to rip off someone elses hard work and money on kits and the like, cos the plans i hade for my current darling will apply to the new one

so if anyone can point me in the right direction for a TT that matches that descrption, please point me in the direction :zlove:

such contact sometimes causes damage that is subtle for example, when this happend on my Z900 kawasaki we could easy see the bent valves and replaced them , however it blew smoke after rebuild and 2 seperate mechanices pulled it apart and rebuilt it every thing looked fine, but it wasnt . Eventually after the 3 rebuild the mechanic sugested to change a piston that was hit , it looked ok but must of had a very fine crack in it as that solved the problem. This crack was imposible to see even when heated up it was not visible.

Bigchoofa, if you are wanting a TT with the same spec's as your na, why not just drop in a TT motor? I mean you are spending $ to fix up your na only to go and sell it. Wouldnt it be smarter to get a tt engine and turn your Z into what you want and keep it? Rather than spending that same money on fixing an na?

This happens all the time, even true low km imports aren't always that great themselves. 150,000kms mightn't sound like much but it will certainly seem like 10x that if the car has been thrashed to death for that 150k which is the case for alot of them. It's always a gamble with imports, half of the shit wrong with it you wont even know until it arrives.

But an oil pump failure? Err, oil warning light? Oil pressure reading 0? All these things are bad and you should pull over? lol

I did consider this option... but i was talked out of it by Pete and the boys at Amec. apparenty its too much work for the money you pay, and the car doesnt retain as much value as it would if it were a true TT

i've been looking at a few TT's on here and a few look promising. i don't think i will find exactly what im looking for, but close enough is good enough at the moment. i will just make it how i want it in the near future :p

it just proves that k's dont mean a damn thing. maintainance is far more important.

I replaced a V12 in a jaguar XJS that had only done 80,000. but in that time it had only 1 oil change!!!!!!!

THen there's the guy with 300,000 who still has good hot oil pressure thanks to oil changes every 8k
