i pulled my dails off in the cluster and i broke the motor in the heat guage and i want to put a water temp meter in it after market . any one know how many mill would fit in there ?

im sure few of you have done it ..

if some one can shed some skin on it would be good lol

Have done it several times, unsure of

diameter though. You would be best to pull yours out and measure it yourself. If you are going to the trouble of doing this, get a good quality guage.

Also try to get one that looks similar to factory so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Might be a good idea to get one with a calibrated temp warning LED built in.

That way, you forget about the guage and only worry if the light comes on. Forum member K-Zed used to make/sell these LEDs called TWD. You can still use the wiring from the single pin temp sender on top radiator hard pipe. May need resistors or a potentiometer in the circuit to calibrate.

Some of these high-end temp guages have their own sender units. Just research how it needs to be installed... Best advice here is don't skimp on quality. The ones I've fitted for customers who have bought them themselves have been way out ~10degrees @ 70 Degrees temp.

A few of us have done it - this is my version using temp and boost gauges. I moved the fuel gauge to the old boost gauge spot so I could put in a boost gauge in its place. The meters are 52mm. The match is not perfect, becasue the white of the LED gauges is a bit too bluish, but overall it has worked out pretty well. Everyone hates the stock temp gauge, why keep the stupid thing?

Give me a little while and I will see what I can do. I am pulling my cluster out again soon to re-do the low fuel warning light. I used a LED and I had to disconnect it as it was on all the time as in the pic. I need to trial and error the right loading resistors to get it coming on only at the right time.

When the cluster is out, I will take a pic or two and write you some notes on how it was done.

I thought 60mm fit best? I have a 60mm autometer temp in mine, had to slightly trim the hole tho from memory...

I don't think 60mm will fit without some trimming as you say Mike, but 52mm was what I had, so that is what went in. There is a gap around each gauge and I don't mind how that looks either.

i put a 60mm defi gauge in mine, fit perfectly with no mods. also interested in how you moved the fuel gauge, have a oil pressure gauge to fit too.

excellent, that would be great i plan on doing that 100% but just never had someone give me information on how to do it. the more info the better even if it sounds like the easiest step :p :D thanx :cool:

p.s put some guage rings in and u wont have a gap around the gauges ;)

nice topic . any more inputs ?

    thanks

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

As far as i know the fuel gauge and the oil gauge in the dash cluster interpret the same signal as each other, so i believe you can just plug the fuel gauge signal into the oil pressure gauge and it should work the same but in the oil pressure spot obviously.
(you'd just have to do something with the oil symbol above it, aswell as set up a new low fuel warning light as Barry has done).

60mm gauges fit properly. There is a little wiggle room so I flipped the brushed gauge rings that I had and used them as mounts and then used silicone caulk to hold them in place.

To use the boost/oil pressure gauge as a fuel level gauge, all you need to do is swap the signal wires from the fuel signal wire to the boost signal wire.

I have some pictures of mine if needed, but it basically looks like the one already pictured.

Also, you can slip out the gauge backing and bring it into a photo editor. Use the same tick marks/lines and just switch the oil icon to a fuel icon and put an E and F. IIRC, it has to be placed with E on the left because of the sweep that the fuel gauge has.
