    Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone had experienced the speedo going crazy before. Last night I started the Z and as I was backing out of the driveway, the speedo jumped and got stack at about 300km/h. As this was happening I felt the steering get heavy, like there was no power steering. I drove it down I few streets, not very fast and after awhile, the speedo returned to normal and steering was light again, like normal. What could be the cause???, don't want to be take a corner and have this happen with the heavy steering.

with hicas anyway speedo tells your ecu when and how much assistance to put on the steering pump... faster you go the more or less assistance you need etc.... if the speedo is off then chances are your steering will be very heavy... mine is as my speedo isnt working atm

Ah right I haven't got HICAS so it's probably the belt.

What do you mean? No NA had HICAS right?

Correct, but all Z32 Power Assisted Steering is speed related assistance, the faster you go the less assistance is needed(if stopped, no assistance). Hence why you get none ATM because your considered to be stopped according to the info being provided by the Speedo.

I tested mine today, it's sending a 0 to the ECU when it happens. Which would mean it's the speed sensor or something under the tranny right?

good, because it was up in a hoist and one of the connections was 'loose' so hopefully that problem is history :D

It can also be due to bad soldered joints on the small Printed Circuit Board on the rear of the Speedo unit. This can be fixed by re-soldering all of the connections on that PCB.

This has been covered very thoroughly in the Tech Section of this site.:zlove:
