    Check out this Pink 300ZX

    Pink 300zx

Sort of like it but not 100% sure bout the tail lights.

Even the mags seem to suit it.

    Piperes had some competition.

    :p

crazy like a fox, some of 'em

If you dig around a little on this guy's site (and there are a shedload of pic pages), you can find a pic of what might be the most important Datsun ever - at least for us.

Any guesses as to why? (thanks google)

    I'll have a guess......

I think this car basically established the Datsun brand in Australia as something to take notice of, as I seem to remember that they won the 1958 Mobilgas Trial rally with this car, or at least finished well.

An even more left of field guess - was the famous Mr K - the Z car designer - the driver of this car?

    Close enough

Mr K was a marketing exec at Datsun and he pushed for them to enter the 1958 Mobilgas Trial. It was their first ever competition outside Japan - and they won their class! Mr K was put in charge of the team (not a driver). So if they hadn't done well, no career for Mr K, no Zs. BTW he wasn't actually the car designer (there was a whole team), by that time (and thanks in part to his success in the Mobilgas) he was President of Nissan US (or Marketing Manager - sources differ). And it was he who pushed for the Z and hence became known as "the Father of the Zed".
