i havent adjusted the timing on my car since it came from japan (1 month ago) and it pings ever so slightly in 4th gear. The knock sensor dont work. i always use Optimax but its still not same ocatane as japan.
Which way should i move my crank angle sensor to prevent the pinging? clockwise?
How the hell do you rig up a timing light to these things?

    Cheers!

    info

Clock wise is correct to retard.

There is an inductive loop wire near the PTU on the wiring harness coming off of it,
PTU is located at the front of the engine bottled to the timing belt cover on the driver's side.

I use that for my timing pickup.

look at ttz of dallas: article called timing tweak

This will give you a good idea. But i think to back off the timing turn the cas clockwise and to advance it turn anticlockwise. But please read this article as I am no expert. here is the link.

    Hope this helps.

just wanna get rid of this pinging cause im doin a fair bit of highway driving, it might be making the engine run a bit hotter than usual too.

    woot just bypassed knock sensor

after retarding my timing by 1.5-2mm on the CAS. it was pinging slightly in safety mode and got worse in normal mode, but all fixed.

Goes harder now! stock boost gauge hits the 2nd last line instead of just past the 3rd line. thanx for the advice fellas!

    Cheers!
