I'd aslo check out that tuned ECU, too lean A/F can cause you to run hoot too.

    1) If you don't mind I'd defiantly like to give another clutch fan a go. I'll try to organize a time for the pickup some time this week if this suits?

    2) Not sure, its a silicon hose. What would be the best way to test?

    3) Haven't done the cooling system flush as yet. When we did the 100k service everything seemed very clean in there. I'm going to put it on my list for piece of mind and try to get it done over the next few weeks.

    4) Your tech article was the first one I read :)

The readout from the ECU can be found here. It shows all the maps and specs.

A quick update. Just raised the bonnet using 3 extra washers per bolt with some new 20mm bolts. Took her for a test drive along my normal testing route.

It did the same thing as the other night. Went up to 79 and held flat for a few minutes then hit 80. Drove along at 80 for a little while then she slowly crept up to 85 and would not move regardless of how she was driven. Would not go up or down.

Drove about 4-5kms at 85 and pulled into my garage and let her idle with the bonnet up and after 5-10 minutes she dropped back to 81.

The raising of the bonnet definatly made a difference however not quite as much as I was hoping for :(

Next step is to borrow Zed4Life's spare fan clutch and give that a go and I'll also book her in for a power flush this week.

its amazing what a vented bonnet makes .
removing hot air from engine bay (back of radiator)often does more than trying to feed more air into it.

I noticed this on mine .

About 80 is right. What do you want?

Do you have a front splash shield installed? (One under air box)

This can contribute to higher highway temps, as the passing air has an easier route under the car, rather than through the radiator.

If your cooling system is running properly, then a single part omitted or not working properly may not be detrimental, but combinations of deficiencies multiply the problems and make troubleshooting harder.

Yup, I've got both guards in place. The one under the rad and the one under the nose.

She is sitting around 85 without any boosting or AC. With AC on a ~30 degree day she is up around 95 with no boosting. No AC with mild-medium boosting she is around 90 and in the mid 90s with no AC on the highway with mild boosting.

I'd like to see her running in the low-mid 80s with medium boosting and no AC or low 90s with the AC on.

Some engines just run a boit hotter than

others. K-Zed's zed and my (previous) zed were virtually identical except for auto V manual and Rob's always ran about 5-8deg hotter than mine despite his 100% cooling system.

Has it always run this hot or is this something new?

Def get the cooling sys power flushed. There is a good rad shop on Kessells Rd Macgregor near Cliver Peeters. 6/547 Kessels Rd, Macgregor QLD 4109. Ph 3343 3211‎. Get them to do a full reverse power flush. You might be suprised at what comes out. In an old engine the cooling sys galleries can build up a lot of sediment etc which will narrow the diameters hence less water getting thru .. A distinct possiblity. I'd also get a pressure test done while you are there. Could also be a small leak somewhere which is exposing the pressurised coolant to the atmosphere causing a reduced boiling point...

PS: You can grab the clutch fan anytime. Just PM me a time/date. I'm now in Mackenzie (about 3 mins from the old address).

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Something simple, which may or may not apply - do you have mesh fitted in the front bar opening?
I used to, and had the same temp issues as you describe. Recently removed it and the temps now sit at 85 A/C off, or 90 A/C on.

have u got the lower fan part of the stock fan shroud fitted? the curvey peice.. that can make a big difference!

Its always run hot since I bought it. Last summer she was hitting around 105 as the temp guage would occasionally go up to around 3/4 with no AC on. I've managed to drop the temp by installing the bigger radiator.

Yep, both halves of the fan shroud are in place.

Nope, no mesh. Its just a stock front bar.

A further update for those still playing at home. I drove her to work today with ambient (indicated) temps of 34 with the AC on just to see how she went. After 15 minutes she hit 100 degrees and I switched the AC off. 15 minutes of driving without the AC brought her back to 93 degrees.

I dont suppose anyone in Brisbane has the facilities to spray my new vented nose panel if I supply the paint?

I will book her in to get a power flush next week.

    My advice

Power flush as suggested, 100K service with new Nissan water pump and new thermostat.

Ok guys, time for an update.

I believe the problem may now be resolved (or there abouts). Did a bunch of work on her today and took her out for a drive tonight. She went along at 81 up until I gave her the boot up the hill near my house at which point she hit 83 :zlove:

    Today I did the following:

    - Finished the nose panel off and installed
    - Swapped the fan clutch for the one borrowed from Zed4life.
    - "Racing Tape" used to cover any gaps in the front splash guard.

I'm really happy with how she is performing now and I'll be giving her a run tomorrow to work with the AC on to see how she goes.

Thanks everybody for your advice, I just hope I can put this issue to bed and start enjoying the zed again.

My car was getting hot when i had a fmic with no splash guards or front fan.
Was around 95~ on the highway no a/c. Keep in mind this was on a f'n hot day.

I changed over to sidemounts with the rear and front splash guards installed. No wheel arch guards installed.
Temps more or less the same, not much of an improvement. Slightly better maby.

Reinstalled my front thermo fan, took it out at night seems alot better. Also changed the settings to run the fan all the time.
Didnt get over 83c with a/c on 10. was very cold :D glad to see that still works. This was on a 30c night. Day would be different. But still much improved compared to no aux fan.

    Hey All,

Another status update. Drove to work in 32 degree ambient temps with the AC on and hit a maxium of 86 on the highway and 89 in traffic. My problems are solved thank god :D

Thanks everyone for the advice, I guess I wont be selling her after all.

Yes, a vented nose panel is good if you have FMIC
