    Hey there

I have been reading around lately and i though i would come on here in the hope that someone or more then one person can help me confirm what the go is with coilovers being either legal or illegal.

Now i have heard many different point:

    1. Only Tein SS coils are legal
    2. Any coil is legal as long as you get it engineered
    3. Coils are not legal at all

I'm very lost can someone please help.

Coils are an illegal modification but some can be engineered. That's my understanding at least.

I cannot comment on what is ADR complied and not but from the chap at the pits here its as A2Zed has mentioned - they do however still have to be engineered.

Coil overs are considered ADR compliant IF they retain rubber upper mounts and do NOT have an adjustable clevis clip

aint that perfect, with my car being too low (95mm) I was considering coilovers, when I asked him he told me he would only accept them if ADR approved and engineered and that can only be done in perth 400kms away........

    You are correct!

Best to my knowledge when I wanted to put coilovers in tien SS were only ADR tested/approved option and thus my engineering certificate covers them for proper installation

Just thought I'd add there's two versions of tein ss. Aus models that are modified and sold in Aust and jap spec which came from Japan originally. Afaik only the Aus spec ones are 'legal'.

And I bet $20 you wouldn't be able to spot the difference :p

I was under the impression that the 'aus' ones only had varied spring rates and valving.

The NCOP which applies in WA and some other states does not appear to require certification for coilovers on a Z32 if ride height is within limits.

Never had anything said about my cheapy MDU's :p
Been over a roady and passed, as well as multiple coppers saying there fine.

I meant to write "does not require certification" instead of "does require certification".

I would expect the coilover on a Z32 to be considered a shock and spring rather than a strut. Shocks and springs are listed as not requiring certification.

Part number is different apparently, but you're exactly right wouldn't be able to tell the difference on the side of the road. I heard that too, au version has softer springs and dampners.

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

My coilovers were approved on my engineer's certificate. Not SS's.

Where do fulcrum claim that their SS are ADR complied?

AU version from Fulcrum have a different part number and yes different spring and valve rates.

Nowhere do they make any claim of being ADR complied.

They are however ADR comliant, and this is due to the design.

Way too much misinformation in this thread (no Ryan that's not directed at you)...

For anyone worried about their illegal coilovers, I'll happily do a swap for a set of stockies plus cash my way to get you out of trouble :p
