    Howdy all...

May I ask for some assistance......

I did a plenum and hard pipe pull so I could install stainless braided hose, paint the plenum etc... now I have got her all back together again, fired her up and no go... plenty of cranking and fuel definately running through but not kicking over.

I did an ecu check and came up with 2 errors....

Code 34.. Det Sensor.. now I have found one of the two wires physically broken from the other.. but it looks like it had been cut and stripped before I owned it for some reason and just twisted back together.. will this cause the ecu to not fire the ignition system or is it purely for safety boost.. it will be a bitch to re-join the wire as it is barely long enough.. (suggestions welcome)..

Code 21.. Primary ignition signal.. I have a series 2 ptu installed (have done for ages) and the car was running fantastic before the plenum pull. is there anywhere I should be checking other than the harness apapter that goes to the series 2 ptu.. maybe another connector I forgot somewhere that is common for people to be careless with in regards to reconnection..

Note that I didn't disconnect any of the PTU harness as it is relocated anyway but it is in a place that is easy to knock around when re-fitting the hard-pipes.

    Thanks in advance...

    Well...

The Code34 won't be stopping you from starting your car, it'll be the 21.
You have an open or short circuit to the Det sonsor and also the PTU.
You will need to check the wiring and connectors to both of those parts.

code 21 could stop the car from starting,

perhaps check the ptu pins haven't been pushed/pulled out or maybe something left disconnected as you said.? code 34 is very common and instead of trying to repair the severely heat perished copper wire, I replaced both the harness and det sensor when I had the opportunity. Det sensor Harness cost about $50aud from coz. As pexzed said this wouldn't prevent the car from starting. Goodluck with it

    Ok the plot thickens....

Thank you for the support so far... I have swapped out my series 2 ptu for my original series 1 one and guess what... she roars to life...

now my problem... none of the pins look pushed in or unusual at all for that matter... its not common for a series 2 ptu to just crap itself all of a sudden is it..

OK... have done even more diagnosing and it would

appear my series 2 ptu has just given up the ghost all of a sudden.. I have done a continuity test to all the pins of the sub harness while connected to the main harness and all pins test ok.. when I plug the PTU into it.. no go.. swap for the spare series one unit... she fires up..

Does anyone know if the PTU's from COZ have a warranty.. is it just a waste of time chasing them and just buy another... it pissses me off having to spend another 265+ for a PTU that is only a few months old.. (probably 4 months actually).

It will be one of the only few S2's that

    have died ...

No, my money is on the connector adaptor. One of the pins in the S2 adaptor harness will be not seated completely. Do a continuity check on both sides of each wire on all the PTU adaptor plugs

I have done a cont.. test on both sides..

    Specifically....
I connected up the series 2 sub harness to the main harness without the ptu connected then pealed back the connection boots off the main harness then tested continuity from *EVERY* wire on the main PTU harness to *EVERY* wire that connects to the PTU, all continuity tests pass ok... let me tell you I am pissed if it is a dead S2 PTU...

I am going to have to suck down some more piss to get over it tonight I think...

Marklar... If you are checkin out this thread, expect a visit tomorrow to swap the units between our Z's to check... plus... where are U, sms'd you to come for piss-up.. (off-topic)
