    G'day guys,
Long time no see! Hope everyone is having safe Zed adventures :)

Noticed lately a slow oil stain on the driveway, looks to be no more than a drop or two every day for a couple of weeks. FINALLY i got under the Zed and gave her a bit of a clean around, there was 'fluid' all over the bell housing and the rear of the sump. After running the Zed for a bit, i got back under and noticed a bit of fluid seeping around the rubber boot of the slave cylinder (Refer pic Thanks to Jedi haha) [IMG]
the red arrow is from Jedi's post, so ignore that :) but although the pic doesn't show mine (left edge, half way up), you get the idea. Is this a very very bad thing? (OK i know nothing about clutch cylinders, but even I know this is prpbably not good!). Would this also cause the 'fluid' to be all over the back of the sump?? Not too sure about that one...

Anyway, any ideas / hints / fixes greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Remove , repair or replace. Should be able to monitor it by how much you are topping up the master

    Hi Rob,
    How the Hell are you?
First thing is to determine what sort of "fluid" is all over the sump(it's highly unlikely to be clutch/brake fluid). It will most likely be engine oil(leaking oil seals or sump gasket) or possibly power steering fluid from one of the hoses. If it is clutch fluid, it could be from the rubber hose section of the clutch line(they are a known weak link in the system) or from the Slave Cylinder.
The best fix is to replace the clutch line with a braided S/Steel item (UAS or Caz1 sell them) and slave cylinders are reasonably cheap and easy to replace.
    Cheers mate.

    G'day Lloyd

Knew I could count on you for a reply haha :)

I'm well, busy busy with work etc, dont cruise with the Zed much any more thinkin of selling it. Know any1 that wants a low KM NA that looks sexy? haha.
Well the saga continues.... had the slave cylinder replaced (least I hope that will fix my leaking), at which point they couldnt get the clutch to bleed up, so like most mechanics they said "Must be the Master Cylinder" which is code for "We have no idea but that is the most logical step and it will cost you shitloads more and we will get paid for it coz we have no diagnostic talent, we are just here to shaft you", but anyway, I digress!
New Master cylinder comes in from Melbourne, friday morning they come out to put it in. SAme thing, they can't get the clutch to bleed up or whatever the hell that means, and that they will need to tow it to the workshop to use a special device which fits over the master cylinder etc etc.... so my baby is waiting to be towed. Total cost so far?? Round $600 and climbing... all to fix a little leak on the driveway haha...

Oh well, least it will have new master and slave cylinder if/when I sell it :)

    Hi Rob,
I don't want to state the obvious, but if your clutch was operating normally prior to this thread, then there is clearly nothing wrong with the M/Cyl.
Judging by the pics, there didn't seem to be any excess fluid around the S/Cyl either.
If the M/Cyl was so far gone that you couldn't bleed the system, then surely you would have gotten some small clue when all the gear teeth were being shredded during numerous gearchanges(sans clutch).:D:D
Did you determine what kind of fluid leaks were causing the original patch of oil on the floor?
P.S. Don't sell the Zed!:eek::eek: At today's prices, you will lose heaps of cash(and anyway, "He who has the best toys, WINS"):D For not much more than the annual rego costs, you can have the best toy on the block.:zlove::zlove:

    mmmmm Toys

Well..... you do have a point there Lloyd :p Yeh it would be hard to sell it, but ya never know....

New master and slave are in.... clutch has been adjusted properly, she goes like it did before.... Even got rid of the annoying squeak when I pushed the clutch in!!

But on the downside, yeh you're right again (twice in 1 thread, thats ALMOST a record haha) the leak is still there. I had hoped it was just 'burnt' clutch fluid leaking from around the rubber boot on the slave cyl, but clearly I was wrong... Looks like the mobile mechanic wasnt the only one with poor diagnostic talent!

So back to square one. Wondering where the leak is coming from.... will have to get it looked at I guess when the funds regroup after the big hit! Hoping its nothing major... ROB32Z signing out....
