    hey thugs,

finally got import registered today! :zlove: and seriously 30 minutes after i put the plates on her, i feel the clutch starting to slip and it has only gotten worse since then...

just any ideas on what kit i should use to replace and approx costs involved? d/w about including labour as ill just do it myself... assuming just heavy duty for it as it is only N/A 89 2+2. i noticed alot of places to trade ins on clutches? do they expect you to send in yours first then they send theirs or something? that would be a little stupid as car would be off road for a while...?

    thanks players,
    owen

i use a os twin plate

not too happy with it, expensive to begin with and shudders like a bastard when i take of slowly. it will chirp the tyres ay any speed if you just tap the clutch pedal though wich is good but really feels like its doing the car no favors when i take off:unsure:

    os giken twin plate

It came with the car and had recently been rebuilt with new plates. Grips exceptionally well but I do notice the stutter a bit, but thats probably more to the fact that it either grips or it doesnt not inbetween.

os giken twin plate too much for just N/A

i was checking them out before but i dont think i would end up getting one of them. firstly they are pretty expensive and i was trying to keep below the 1000 mark and secondly i wont be making enough power to warrant a twin plate hehe just a poor old N/A.
so yeh just HD clutch i spose. checked out the ones from UAS and TTzed and they were around the $600 mark... does anyone have one of these and if so are they any good?

Nismo G-Max 2 twin plate, no shudder, nice soft spot once u get use.

to it and holds power like you wouldn't believe :p Also is good for flat shifting. I have abused this clutch and it was abused before I had it and it's still going strong. Not sure when it will die but its been ages and has had a fair bit of stress put through it. Only thing is I hate driving when it is wet on hills so i usually don't drive in the rain anyway.

I think a lot of people go back to using a full face clutch with a good pressure plate and find it outlives their button clutches etc. I just like the fun part of having a moderate biting clutch and the sounds it makes lol, each to their own.

Another item that has been discontinued...

The NISMO G-Max clutch series is now extinct replaced by the Super Coppermix line - no model listed for the Z32 (not sure if GTR ones will fit).

If after one of these will probably have to look for second hand and then get it rebuilt.

UAS do both a heavy duty Organic and Ceramic/Metallic plate at a

good price for forum members. I,ve got the later in my TT and its strong and reasonable for daily driving.

hmm sounds like exedy H/D is going to be best

while im at it, any suggestions for tailshaft replacement? ive read a few old posts about some serious vibrations after around 75km/hr which im experiencing and i figured while i remove tailshaft to replace clutch i might as well get a new one and stick it in...

ive heard one piece shafts are the go these days? something about the ones from V8 commodores? anyone know where i can get my greasy little hands on them?

    cheers all

i've got the gmax 2 in mine.

pretty happy with it. seems to hold power very well, and is relatively easy to work with.

when you say "sounds it makes", what kind of sounds do you speak of? mine makes a terrible grinding noise, but only every now and then. had anything like this. also, any ideas about how much rebuilding be

Yeah the grinding sound, i like that sound  rebuilding yeah

there are places in melb that will do it for around $700 for both plates to be re-surfaced and the pressure plate to be re-built 'not sure what that means' and it is suppose to be a 'stronger' compound than the original.

I have heard you have to get a new spacer etc to compensate for the machining of this and the flywheel. If you didn't I doubt you would notice the .0001 of an inch you lose anyway when they machine everything. You could get them to put on 'x' amount of extra pad, I don't see how this would be any different. If anything you would get longer life out of your clutch.

'0.0001' is something i pulled from my head, but surely they do not machine that much off when the flywheel or spacer is machined.

I am not sure of the price of a 1 piece tail shaft but *if* the one you wan

t is going to cost around $1000, spend the extra couple hundred and get a CF one.

so does yours make the grinding noise every

time you take off? is it meant to make this noise? mine does it every now and then, and i assumed that something was wrong or out of place.

Mainly when the clutch is cold, that is when it usually does it. I assume

you get the sound of.. like a grinder grinding metal but without the whirring of the electric blade.. like a 'VRRRRR' sound but slightly more high pitched lol.

It is completely normal for a multi plate clutch. I am not sure what the shudder is from most people get using the OS giken clutches. They are sprung center like the Gmax right? I surely don't get that, I use to get it with my old extreme clutch but not at all with the gmax.

hmm, maybe my grind is different to yours.

mine seems to do it when hot actually, and only sometimes when i take off. it isn't really pleasing to the ear.

:p Just think of it like this

If someone who knows hardly anything about cars hears it they will think something is broken. If someone who knows their stuff hears it, they will know your car is fitted with a multi plate
