    You might find that the clear brake/tail light does not meet ADR's (Australian Design Rules), and can be deemed as unroadworthy, leaving you open to being pulled over by the police.

    If you notice all new cars have RED tail/stop lights, even LED's, and yellow globes with clear lenses on the indicators only.

    I recon if it was allowed then they would already be available somewhere.

    Checked with Transport Tasmania.
    They confirmed on the phone from my description, and of course referred me to their website.
    Their only issue on the phone was "NO white light must be visiable" Which is not (Either from faded or broken rear diffuser).
    They said there is NOT a requiste colour for the Rear diffuser.

    7.1 Visually inspect the compulsory reflectors fitted to the rear of the vehicle.

    Reason for rejection

    red reflector(s) are damaged, discoloured or missing (note: reflectors may be incorporated in the lamp assembly).

    At Rear of vehicle;

    2 (1 prior to 7/88) Red tail lights, max 1500mm off ground, min 600mm apart, max 400mm inboard of side of vehicle (single light located in centre or right side of vehicle);

    2 Red reflectors, max 1500mm off ground, max 400mm (250mm if vehicle more than 2.2m wide) inboard of side of vehicle;

    2 (8/72 onwards) white or yellow reverse lights, max 100mm off ground;

    White registration plate lamp/s, to illuminate registration plate;

    2 (1 prior to 7/88) Red stop lights, min 300mm and max 1500mm off ground (single light to be in centre or on right side of vehicle);

    2 Yellow (red permitted prior to 1/73) turn signal indicators, min 350mm and max 1500mm off ground, min 600mm separation.

    NOTE: When I asked Transport Tas on their interpretation, this was their reply. This reply is consistent with the Regulations: The diffuser can be cleared as long as there is NO white light and the Brake light is RED and the Indicator light is Yellow. They do not decern between Red covers or RED globes or Yellow covers or Yellow globe, provided that NO white light is visible.
    7.2 Visually inspect and check the operation of all lights fitted to the vehicle.

    Reasons for rejection

    any of the following lights do not work or has incorrect colour:
    headlight (high/low beam) (white)
    front park or side lights (white)
    tail lights (red)
    brake light(s) (red)
    turn signal indicator lights (yellow)
    clearance lights (trucks and cycle type vehicles only) (front: yellow/white, side: yellow, rear: yellow/red)
    number plate light (white);
    any rear light other than a reversing light is in a condition or damaged to the extent that white light shows to the rear of the vehicle;
    any yellow clearance light or front turn signal is damaged so that it shows white light;
    the number plate light is not directing light onto the surface of the rear number plate;
    lights as follows are not fitted to pre 3rd Edition vehicles (passenger and light goods vehicles and light omnibuses) (dimensions at centre of lights):

    any optional lights or reflectors interfere with any compulsory lights or reflectors.
    7.3 Visually inspect front and rear lights for the presence of tinted covers.

    Reasons for rejection
    any light has a tinted cover over it, or any tinting applied to it;

    This last one is interesting in Tasmania (Hence, Transport Tasmania did NOT reccommend this when I asked... thus, mine are NOT tinted to be safe with this one)

    Clear seem to be... OK and Autobarn had Indicators and Brake globes to suit... Just need some lens to stick it all back together again..

    Its Legal mate, as long as the red reflector is still present. Ive had mine for 2+ years now driven past heaps of cops and no pull over. Even with these lights they look too DIY for my liking and plan to get the 99spec ones one day.

    they look like a good job was done on them. i dont like the diffuser pattern though, i think thats what makes ot look DIY. you have just used a normal office light diffuser, the dimond pattern isnt the best look. but who ever did this set did a good job by the look of them

    I did it myself back in 06 and fitted mar 07. At the time i was told thats the only diffuser i could get so i just use what i could. I also removed all the tar and used a truck door rubber strip to create a water tight seal between the lights and chassis.

    The thing for me that makes it look DIY is the chrome insert. If it was a proper chrome finish like the OEM i would be much more happy but i got quoted $250 per insert for plastic chrome. I used stupid chrome paint instead which is ok but not how i want my final look.

    The lights themselves cost me $100 each:( Differently wouldnt do it again and the LED lights i used are now flickering and dont come up very bright in the daytime. I replaced the orange LEF with a proper globe as it looked more red then orange.

    I received my today, and a great job!
    Quick turn around as well.
    For the money its not worth trying this yourself, so if your thinking of getting yours done, then GO FOR IT!

    Highly Recommended!

    Well Done Scott.

    Got two sets done - which ones do I choose? :)

    Here's some piccies. In the first pic the lights aren't fully flush - kind of just sitting there. Second pic, nearly flush.

    whe you pick which set you like more mate, make sure you get the hair dryer and heat the black tar up so you get them nice and flush. i like the normal 2k copys. make the zed look newer, but the full clear look alot better than what i thought they would on a zed. probably cos you have a white zed, they match and dont look to bad at all. go the full clear if you want to be abit different to the rest of us. im going full clear/chrome on my set.
