hmmm varying opinions i guess as with anything lol...

tidy job though man, i just pulled all the bits off my engine to paint it yesterday... so might crack into getting that done today, my interior is much the same as yours plans although i do want subs, u may also want to look into r32 gtr front seats, a bit pricey, but the most comfortable seat i have ever sat in, much nicer than the bride's etc i have sat in...

and i think they suit the style of the car nicely.

i dont know how much in aus but here its 500-900 a set.

I'll probably have a look around at some different seats before deciding on what I finally want, do you have any pictures of what the R32 GTR seats look like in the 300zx?

Today I took out the inner fender trim and removed one of two AIVs, as I'm changing my exhaust system over once the engine goes back in I decided they were completely pointless to keep. Also while I was doing it I thought it might be a good chance to paint the caliper red and give the area a bit of a clean up.

    AIV deleted

I'll sort out the left over vacuum lines in the engine bay and AIV solenoid once I repeat todays work in the passenger side fender, probably likely to remove the AIV solenoid altogether to neaten up the engine bay a bit more.

coming up nicley man :) calipers look good! i should come see, should show you my gold ones to ;p

what is the purpose of the AIV? looks like a lot of weight n clutter thats not needed

You should :) Would be good to see how yours is coming along too.

To my knowledge the AIV stands for Air Induction/Injection Valve. It's purpose is to take outside air (from within the inside of the fender wall.) and mix it in with the exhaust gases before the catalytic converters in order to dilute the air and cool it, in an attempt to reduce emissions. The catalytic converters do most of the filtering though and it is unnecessary to keep the AIV system. Later model Z32s did not have the AIV system at all, and the ECU will make up the difference once it is removed by leaning out the idle.

I repainted the plastic trim that makes up the wheel arch today with some flat black VHT 'hood bumper and trim' paint to try and make them look a bit better, as cleaning them with a pressure washer wasn't good enough. They came up looking pretty good so I stuck them back in as well as fitting the wheel back on and making it look shiny :p

The wheel itself obscures much of the caliper but I'll be getting different wheels in the future anyways, and probably do a brake upgrade and change suspension while I'm at it.

mint dude! I've been going over much of my Z with that same spray.

keep the rims! add camber and stretch!

haha yeah it's pretty good stuff :p

I'll be keeping these wheels for a while before I get some other ones as I don't actually mind these too much at all, and think they'd come up looking pretty good if I gave them a really good clean up and removed the gutter rash. Plus the tyres on them came with heaps of tread

I'm not sure how well the photo's show it but there is probably about 5-10mm of clearance between the calipers and the wheels.. pretty close fitment lol.

No problem :) I went out and took some pictures of the engine trolley/stand today and tried to show as best I could how it was made up. Here are the pictures.

Hope that gives you some idea of how the engine trolley was made up. It comes in handy whenever the engine needs moving around. Usually just lift it up by the end of the gearbox and push it around.

Took the dash out today to make enough room to get access to the firewall so that I can replace the EFI loom and also run cable to the boot so I can relocate the battery and make some more space in the engine bay.

There is a fair bit to get out first before you can remove the dash, but once everything is out of the way it's much easier than it looks. I'll probably have to remove the heater core to get access to the EFI loom yet though.

Also found a HKS turbo timer that was put in by the previous owner, or may have been put in back in Japan before it was imported. Not sure if I'll be keeping it or not just yet

Also while the dash was out I took the chance to fit the red LEDs into my cluster and test it while it was out of the car. I've taken a couple of pictures but unfortunately the focus on the camera wasn't too great. But you get the idea. :p

I'm very happy with how they came up. The side pods have been converted as well, but I'm yet to see them light up as I haven't tested them yet.

Coming along quite nicely , when are you hoping to get it on the road ?

Hopefully sometime within the next few months. Although I'm currently waiting on new turbos from Z1 in America as well as AMS manifolds, after they arrive and are fitted up the engine is completely ready to be put back in.

The engine bay is also looking pretty neat at the moment as I've deleted quite a few of the usual things, AIVs, PRVR, EGR, and am currently thinking whether or not to eliminate the HICAS system or keep it. Also in the process of replacing the EFI loom and relocating the battery to the boot, all whilst waiting for the thousands of $$$ worth of stuff I'm waiting on from AMS and Z1

Nice one , I got rid of my hicas , a waste of space that doesn't need to be there imo .
Just waiting on a few things from AMS myself before I install my gt600r kit & other goodies .
I should probably relocate my battery also for space , my vented bonnet fouls on the fuel filter.
I'd better learn how to paint soon too , its in desperate need of a respray

Do you notice much difference in how the car feels to drive without the HICAS? As far as painting goes, I'm in the process of painting the vented nose panel I bought a while back. Matching the original colour is the tricky bit, as the factory colour code isn't always spot on. But I've got it painted in the right colour now, just been waiting for the humidity to go away before I give it a few clear coats. :D

Well I'm happy with the way it handles without it , N/a zeds don't have it and no one complains about how they handle.
A benefit is knowing your rear end isn't going to do something unexpected if you happen to be doing some spirited driving .
I guess it comes down to personal preference , some people say they're glad they got rid of it , some say they wish they kept it .
And a few people have said its malfunctioned almost making them crash , with a car this old I'd rather have the piece of mind that won't happen .
But one of the main reasons I got rid of it is because there are a lot of unnecessary systems that simply do not need to be there for the car to run , such as the things you've deleted so far .
Simpler the better I say , makes working on it so much easier , especially without the air con which takes up a stack of room , i didn't use it anyway .

New twins arrived today :p Bought them through Z1 motorsports. It's their GT535 BB turbo kit, comes with all the gaskets and braided lines etc.

    Here's some pictures.
