    Dear fellow Z lovers

As you may be aware - the American mirrors do not fit the Aus-Spec or J-Spec as the mirror has a smaller base on the US models. :(

Both Kiff and myself (thanks to Kiff, who helped me in building my own with his help from his measurements and also helped in making some adjustments to make the design slightly better) have made adaptors so that the U.S. Mirrors bolts onto the J Spec/ Aus Spec cars.

This means that you can in effect pick up CF style high impact plastic Super Ganador Mirrors or Ganador Mirror knockoffs very cheaply from the U.S. for about $110 posted (that's the motorised mirror and indicator model in CF look) and then fit them to the Aus/ J Spec vehicles and save literally hundreds of dollars in costs!

(Super Ganador's are just Ganador's but also have the indicator fitted - yes the original maker makes both versions - I found this out when researching the originals) ;)

Now that I have made my own adapter, I am willing to take a mould and sell the adapters in fibreglass for about $120 a pair + postage (approx $20 aus wide). They will have a filler inside to add additional strength but remain lightweight.

In summary - you could mount a set of these ganadors/ super ganadors for under $250 which is significantly cheaper than the original versions that sell for well over $550 + postage from Japan (a very conservative estimate for just plain ganador style!)

If your interested in a set of these adapters and in saving literally hundreds of dollars for a set of Super Ganador styles mirrors - Let me know

    Regards
    Jamie

OK Mate - I will take a mould from mine then - they are just in the finishing / final sanding stage at this moment

(so the mould taken is very smooth)

    Cheers

A picture is worth a thousand words......

A couple of simple photos could stop the 'war of words' that has started in this thread, then people could make up their own minds

I wasn't aware of any difference between the US and Jspec zeds mirror bases..... maybe you could provide details !!!

I'm not taking sides in the 'Genuine vs Knockoff' debate because I reckon all the Ganador varieties of mirror are 'butt ugly' ...... but each to their own

+1 to this. Should show us some pics of the molds too.
    The process sounds interesting.

    Pictures and details as requested

As requested - here are some pictures

The first two show the existing problem of why U.S. mirrors will not fit J-Spec / Aus-Spec vehicles

This picture shows that the U.S. Mirror is much smaller

This mirror shows that not even the mounting holes match up

Here is the adaptor I have made by removing the mirror mount and cutting away the inside of the J-Spec mirror base and then attaching the U.S. base and filling with fibreglass filler and aluminium tubes (for strength where the holes are)

I basically needed to know whether I should even take a mould (was there any interest or not) or whether I just proceeded to mount my own - hence I had to post this now.

The adaptors are smoother than the photo's show and technically I could take a mould right now, however final 1500 grit sanding is taking place at the moment so that the mould is very smooth and so people do not need to sand anything at all, just go straight to painting.

I need to make sure these fit before proceeding (they should without anything else needing to be done). So the mould and first copy of the mould should be done in the next two weeks (hopefully - I have a few projects going at the moment but am keen to get this and the new centre console done).

The plan is to use aluminium tubing in the fibreglass moulds where the mounting holes are to give strength and I will also use a lightweight filler for added strength. Both sides of the moulds will be welded together using fibreglass.

These mirrors actually provide better viewing than the originals due to the extra extension of the base at the top.

These pictures just show some of the range of mirrors that we miss out on simply because we do have U.S. mounts/ adaptors

The first two are similar to ganadors as you can see, but the third one is a similar but different style - there are many more styles, some even have arrows on the mirrors themselves? (I counted over twenty different types) but I am not selling mirrors here - just the adaptor that all U.S model mirrors will fit

As stated - I am not a business nor doing this as a business - just merely trying to save others the many hours that it has taken us to do these.

The next photos in this thread will be of the actual item - simlenton will have the first option to buy the 1st finished product

I have to acknowledge and thank kiff for his help in designing these mirrors.
Whilst we both had the same idea, he actually pioneered the making of this adaptor and did such a professional job, that very little improvement could be found or made from his original design. His help was overwhelming and greatly appreciated throughout. Thanks Kiff!

Please feel free to P.M. if required

Just having a read of this thread. You mention US-spec mirror bases are different & will not fit J-spec and Aus-spec cars. I've never heard this before and find it hard to believe. Are you sure it's not just the cheap ebay knock-offs are in fact poorly designed?

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

What he said... You've confused the US spec being different with them being cheap Chinese crap

This. It's not unheard of for the yanks to fit jdm mirrors for the power folding functionality.

The US mirrors fit JDM cars

The passenger side mirror is angled slightly different than the drivers side so they aren't interchangeable in the sense of vision.
