I recently had a turbo back straight threw exhaust system installed on my turbo z32. My mate abused me when he explained that I could get a fine of $15, 000 if I am found with no cats installed or appear to be installed. I just wondering how to go about it. I hear you can gut some cats out and just run the pipe threw it. Or if I wanted to actually install cats how is this done? Are the test pipes just cut somewhere in the middle and the hi-flow cats installed? The test pipes are 70mm in diameter which is 2.7 inch roughly. Thanks guys

Yes, cut the testpipes and have cats welded in. Can be big fines, but not normally issued. They normally just get you to fix it and have it tested.

Easy as, your exhaust shop just cuts a section of pipe out and then they weld in the cats. Or they can add flanges to make it easier to pull apart... But not hard or expensive to do and not worth risking epa fines for.

Plus I don't think high flow cats are that restrictive, especially if they're oversized (ie 3.5" cats on 2.5" pipe)
