Hold up, what you're saying is... your NA needs 5 gauges in conjunction with the rest of the gauges in the cluster?

Having 5 gauges is something you will be picked on for, especially if they're on top of your dash hood cover thing. That would obscure your view rather nicely and they wouldn't like that very much. Plus it'd look stupid IMHO.

    subs not bolted down= defect
window tint, less than 35% on drivers and passenger side door glass (quarter and hatch window can be 5%)
seats= if they arent original, need compliance plate
after market steering wheel= must be approved
    ride height of 100mm

probably the most common things they will check.

Drive like an idiot, and they will find something to pin you for. Same applies with attitude. Bit of common courtesy can go a long way to avoiding trouble..... unless you have a pen happy traffic officer :(

cd/dvd player - must be wired to hand break otherwise defectable and a big fine.
sub in the boot - must be mounted to something and does not move.
white leather seats - nothing wrong with them unless they have excess play in the folding (the backrest part)
19 inch rims - get a tyre placard from benny_c and you can legally run those tyres.
exhaust - grey area.. they say 90db. but people get away with alot more.. just dont make it crazy loud and you wont get in trouble
gauges - as long as they are below eye level you can have as many as you want, say you have 3 in the din slot, 2 on the a-pillar, 2 on the dash (above cluster), they can not do anything as they are all below eye level.

What for, you have a na? the only thing that might be worth keeping is a oil pressure gauge which i'd fit where the current one is. Nice and stock looking.

And imo those rims in your sig are nicer than the 19's

I will actually say this to you, to clarify any question you may ever have..

As soon as you alter ANYTHING from factory, it is actually defectable.

    Just some more then others.

As soon as you alter the exhaust, a policeman can give you a defect notice.
As soon as you alter the air intake, a policeman can give you a defect notice.
No H pattern inside the car can be a defect notice.
No tyre placcard is a defect notice.

As for a aftermarket steering wheel. If yours comes with a steering wheel and you replace it with one without, it is completely illegal.

For most of your issues there, the only clear way around them is a engineering certificate.

is anyone well informed on the rules for us P plate zed owners and modifiing our cars? i know we cant hit a certain power limit (200KW?), but ive also heard mixed reports on upgrading exhaust, POD filters (even when done properly) etc heard that we are unable?

Wow you guys really are uninformed. If you could even get 200kw out of an N/A I'd bother answering and if your in a TT power is the least of your concern, your ass and wallet will be the first when you get caught.

19s and 5 gauges in a canary yellow zed? They would be doing us all a favor defecting you.

I removed my steering wheel for a steering wheel without a steering wheel, is that legal?

Settle down Roddybunch. He might've been quoted Flywheel KW from a 3.2L stroked NA with wild cams and a massive compression ratio.

Dougaz, dude... the best you'd get from an NA with a healthy engine is 140-150 TOPS without spending big big BIG money.

For an NA, get a pod filter and upgrade your exhaust. Then put the rest of the money, that you'd otherwise spend on tiny 0.25 hp bits, into a TT-Swap fund.

  17. Anti

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

The laws, at least for NSW, state that an engine can not be modified for increased power output.

You need a 25th anniversary tyre placard for those shitty wheels.

    Bolt your sub down.

5 additional guages in an NA is stupid. Get one, use it as an after market temp. guage. Sell the other 4 for the money you'll need to clear the defect you think you're going to get. You can never be "100% sure" that you'll be okay; you're driving a 20 year old modified "hoon car".

At the moment, whether or not you get defected depends entirely on your behavior as a driver and much more importantly, the attitude you show to police officers. So stop thinking of them as "assholes" and more like people doing a job which cops them a lot of flak that you need to be able to work with. Control your temper, be polite and try to smile with them, not at them. There will always be something on our cars that we can get defected for. If it comes to it and the officer's having a bad enough day, it's very possible he/she will simply make something up.

I'm speaking the wise words of other forum members and from experience. Not long ago I was pulled over doing 20 km p/h over the limit in the pouring rain. Car too low, big cannons on the rear, HIDs glowing, pod filter visible through the mouth on the front bar and unsecured sub sitting in the boot not even concealed by the blind. She let me off and didn't mention a thing about the car.

  18. Hidds

    Hidds THAT annoying guy....

alright the things cops will be looking for...

loud exhaust system, loud sound system, car too low, guages that are on the dash are illegal due to them becoming a projectile in a crash, dark tint, destracting light emitting from the car.... so pretty much everything

just keep everything legal, so before modding make sure you speak to reputable people, and ask the simple question of "is this going to be legal"

you should be right... but then again someone had been booked for having a brake master cylinder... because you know, they are our BOV's, and police always know right!

Guages must be mounted below the top of the steering wheel, ie draw a horizontal line fromthe top of the steering wheel anything below is ok so no a pillar guages unless down low.
Another thing they love to check cos they have no clue is the battery is secure

may have worded that wrong, wasnt trying to say i would get near 200KW (well aware theres no chance in this reality lol) thats just the rule i heard somewhere, not even sure who it applies to or if number is correct. was more interested in the rules against exactly the two things mentioned, exhaust and pod filter.
