if its the same as mine it will be the little hose coming up to the fpr.

ok, we went over the car last night and its got a little leak at the filler id say, not much just vapour.

some hose clamps in the bay were a few turns loose and there were signs of seeping fuel/old lines, but again, nothing catastrophic.

diagnosis....plenum pull required soon, with all fuel hoses etc to be replaced. ie, typical z32 stuff. it should be fine in the short term id say, but the owner said he will keep a close eye on it.

Mine seems to be coming through the AC vents when it's cold. Will look into it when i've finished parting out the other Z.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned injectors as a possible cause. The 2 'O' rings in each injector harden and leak over time and can cause petrol fumes (AND FIRE!)
Also there is a hose that runs up the left side of the engine bay from under the battery box to somewhere at the front - sorry tech-sperts, I can't remember what it's called or where it goes but when I had a similar fuel smell someone suggested I check that hose. In my case it was an injector leaking.
As previously suggested, turn on the ignition first thing in the morning but don't start it, then sniff around the engine bay to try to locate the source. If you find the source, stop sniffing.
