Can I run both bov and recirculating valves at the same time?

Hi all I just bought a pair of old school his bov's do I have to remove the factory recurcs to fit them? I know they do the same job but I'm sick of driving a twin turbo with less turbo noise than my diesel wagon. I have read about cars that run both with the bov only actuating under high boost and the standard all the time but not in a z so asking. It could all be because I'm turning 40 in October but I just want to hear some turbo noise on the shifts. Thanks.

    and this
The springs/preload in aftermarket BOVs are generally much stronger than OEM valves (HKS doubly so) and having the OEMs will reduce the amount of air flowing through the BOVs even when they do open. You 'can' run them together so long as both are still hooked up correctly but you might not get the results you want. There are 'hybrid' options available that offer a blend of recirc and atmo if that's of interest to you and they'll be more balanced and adjustable than trying to mix OEM and HKS units. http://www.turbosmart.com.au/product/kompact-dual-port-universal-fit

Another point is the 'signature' noise of the HKS ssqv is actually from them not opening/how and when they open, so you'll lose that completely if there's other vents open.

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

Normally you remove the factory valves and install the blow off valves in their place

Of course you can run OEM recirculation valves & aftermarket atmospheric BOV's at the same time. :p
Whichever pair has the lowest relief pressure setting will activate & the other pair will be excess weight you will be carrying around. :p

At your age you'd think you would be over the "Look at me, I've got a turbo" stage.

The noise is for me, just like the 3inch exhaust and stupid big stereo I do all my driving alone on country back roads, I don't get the negative attitude to turbo noise no other sports car has to run silent or get given shit except the new mustang which doesn't make a sound for some reason?

Op you say old school his bov do you mean HKS, these are on a hard pipe kit?
If they are like the blitz kit replaces the hot side hose just fit them up and leave the stock valves in place.

Pro tip - disassemble the plunger and clean all internals should be a C clip holding it together. Reassemble with grease on the plunger I use molypoly as I have it on hand, blow compressed air through the vac hose and drop it in some soapy water to check for leaks, thread tape what every leaks, proberly the vac inlet and tension screw.

Update, works flawlessly quiet recirculating at low boost for around town and fun bov when giving it some. Totally works just had to adjust the boost controller down from 16 back to my standard 14psi. :D:br::D

Do you mean installing the BOVs increased your boost?

    This doesn't make any sense......

"Update, works flawlessly quiet recirculating at low boost for around town and fun bov when giving it some."

If I've interpreted your statement correctly you're saying, at (unspecified) low boost pressures the OEM recirculation valves are operating, & at (unspecified) high boost pressures the atmospheric BOV's are operating.

You also mention, "Totally works just had to adjust the boost controller down from 16 back to my standard 14psi."

Therefore the highest boost pressure that can be achieved is 14 psi.

The OEM recirculation valves are not adjustable & can maintain your boost pressure of 14 psi psi.
This must be realistic assumption because you have reduced the boost pressure from 16 psi.

Now you can hear the aftermarket BOV's venting to atmosphere & you only have 14 psi.

It stands to reason the aftermarket BOV's must be set to a lower pressure than the OEM recirculation valves.

If the OEM valves open at a lower boost pressure than your 14 psi pressure.

How can the 14 psi be achieved?

Yes, to 16psi which is not ideal on stock turbos so I reset my boost control to 14psi. Happy days running both stock recirculating valves and bov's.

Are you sure you hooked them up properly? Didn't tap into the wastegate line for the bovs did you? Installing them really shouldn't affect your boost settings.

14 psi was what I was running before I installed the bov's after installing I was getting 16 which I feel is too high on stock turbos so I adjusted the boost control back to my standard of 14 psi. Now I get no noise but possible venting to atmosphere at low boost say up to 6psi I assume the recirculating valves are functioning as normal before the bov's in the inlet tract so they recirculate the boost before it phisically gets to the bov to vent but when kicking it in the guts both stock and atmo valves share the venting giving me happy sounds and not causing any noticeable ill effects. :(:br::br::br:if you doubt or would like a demo come round and we can go for a run.:D

No teed into a fresh vacuum line for them. Just bumped the boots for some reason could be better sealing or different inlet volume making more boost due to lower tract volume.

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

    LOL I get that m8.
Im a bit older than you... quite a bit actually and if i cant hear the turbo or some flutter/choofing on sudden throttle off im quite dissapointed!!!

    Rock on old fella!!!!!
