Was thinking this other day, can the ECUtalk be used on OBD 2 on the later model nissan cars. I think it's after 99 or 2000 Nissan started using OBD 2 connection. If we can Find other end of OBD 2 connector(male or female I am not sure) and connect to the ECUtalk wires. This way we can use ECUtalk on later model nissan???? Thoughts??? Thanks
All Z32s can take ecutalk. If by some crazy chance you have come across one of the ones fitted with OBD2 plugs im pretty damn sure you can rewire it to an OBD1 plug as they only changed the plug for those cars, not the language. Correct me if im wrong but they were in California only??
No, ecutalk supports obd1 only. So it will not work on nissans that are obd2. Also, like others have said, obd2 never came in rhd 300zx's. It was only in 1996 year z32's in USA as part of a legal requirement over there (every car sold after 1995 had to support obd2).
Na na na sorry if did explain properly. I am talking about other nissan car after 2000 model. Obviously z32 never came with OBD 2 nor I am talking about z32 for OBD 2 connection. It's the other nissan car post 2000 model. Cheers
obd2 isn't just a different connector. It's a different software package all together. Like taking a windows computer program and trying to get it to run on a Mac. Just won't work because they speak two different 'languages'.
Not sure about that, I was always under the impression that the late model jdm zeds were 32 bit and they were all still 16 bit back in 96? Could be wrong.
as others have said, wont work because theyre different language/protocol/electrical signalling (and of course, the plug). some OBDII do work, but this is cause they arent actually OBDII but original consult, but have the OBDII connector (bit silly but maybe a way around legal requirements). e.g. non-crd ZD30 diesel patrol up to 2007 is still consult1 despite having OBDII plug. hence obd2 option on ecutalk website.
If you have a modern car with ODB2, check out the gadgets you can get from PLX Devices http://www.plxdevices.com/ I have a kiwi-mpg in the RX8. It is similar to the Ecutalk module but smaller. It shows fuel consumption and you can also read the error codes etc. I also just got a kiwi Bluetooth that hooks up to my phone. An Android app like Torque lets me display just about any sensor live, much like the PC version of Ecutalk. I'm planning to get a 7" tablet to mount semi permanently in the car for this.
