You guys with aftermarket cams, did you regrind yours or get replacements?
I've looked at teh Tomei & Jun ones, and the kits are all around the $2500 mark which seems a bit excessive when you consider how much cheaper it is to regrind your existing (or get the JWT mild - same thing)

IS there anyone in brisso that has had theirs done and can reccomend a good place to get it done??

If you get reground cams you will lose you hydraulic lifters. Are you sure you want to do that?

I chose the JWT wild CAMS that are ground from new blanks. I can use the stock lifters.

From what I have read the JWT reground mild cams are not a lot better than stock.

The JUN cams that Method has bought, use solid lifters as well. I wouldnt consider this for a road car. The Z32 lifters are too hard to get to, to adjust.

Any regrinds are going to be a compromise that will not give you big lift which is required to maximize air flow through the heads.

JWT wild CAM kit through COZ is under $2000 shipped

UAS do NEW cams (not regrinds)

Not on the website though so might be best to send them an email

NA ones are around $1400/pair don't know about TT

hmm JWT wild cams with stock lifters? so that greatly minimises the size of the job? what else is required if someone decided to get those cams?

    The whole kit is.

    CAMS
    CAM gear adaptors
    valve springs
    VVT springs

Think I paid about $2000 for that lot from COZ may have been cheaper actually.

    has anyone

done a before and after dyno with them? they should increase topend power right?

    Regrinds

To clarify my engine, that has made 427rwkw and will make more with factory cams reground. Not best way to do it as need to change things in head to make up the clearance for preload on valves. This is required as with regrind of factory cam it takes too much off the base circle to get decent lift and duration over stock. Same as in Shifters car but too hard and involved to set up, and most workshops would not know how to set them up. Easier to get jap ones or JWT although cost heaps more.
Goes to show though you don't have to spend big money to get results.
I might look into getting blanks ground as supplier was getting them in but was taking a while when spoke to them last.
Also NA and TT cams are same although manual cams have 8 degrees more duration on exhaust cams.

    Wild set..

How would the wild set with high lift go on stock turbos and stock heads? Would I see an improvement or would it be better to get the heads done. Cams are probably going to be easier to change than the heads, was at one point looking at it but at the moment not something critical that I would do.

you should see good improvement, as @ 9psi on stock turbos you will be pushing alot more air=more power..
you wont have much chance of getting 15psi to work with stock turbos and
    wild cams though

how would the wild cams go on a na engine,

i understand it would be lumpy/idle roughly, but would it be drivable, substantially more powerful than a set of jwt mild cams,as from all accounts they dont do much at all
would it give the same result as it would in a v8,ie shitloads of improvement??

Supposedly they actually idle quite well.

I will be able to tell you soon :D

The mild cams are a waste of space from all reports

    what i read

on twin turbo net is that the jwt wild cams aren't too wild at all, they say jim's market is for people that want a improvement but still the comforts of stock

is it possible to get more wild ones? where from and how much? with the sacrifice that idle isn't as good, but the benefit of a more wild top end...

my JUN cams use stock lifters. All of the JUN cams do, the only ones which must be used with solids are the tomei 10.Xmm lift ones

No one has ever just changed their cams and done a before/after dyno, they always change at least one other thing while the heads are off.

    The only cams which will

give you a lot of power along with a lumpy idle are the tomei cams. You *must* use solid lifters with them though. I have heard a car idle with these cams and it was nothing like stock. Lots of people have wild cams and say they can't tell a difference over stock when it idles. To get real benefits from cams you really need to port your runners and get a valve grind. Jap cars benefit more from a higher lift rather than a longer duration.

Rathius what kind of power are you going for?

Are you sure you need cams?

Stock cams will easily allow for 300+ with the right turbos

There are a number iof different versions of JWT wild cams.

Suggest you check out his web site.

I dont want a totally unmanageable street car. If the Standard wild ones are 1 or 2 steps up from stock. I am happy with that.

I dont want a rough idling bastard!

Also if you decide to go with JUN

cams, don't try to use JWT HD springs, JUN cams deform them in no time. The only springs which hold up to the JUN style cams are the JUN HD springs.
