hey guys,I am finally going to paint my calipers however the tech article on TTnet looks dodgy, i dont wanna just cover everything in news paper and spray it while on the car. is there a good article anywhere or some easy instructions on how to get the calipers off, and put them back on and bleed the system etc.will i need some more brake fluid, ie will taking the calipers off let all the fluid run out etc? :?)cheers

And if your going to do that...

...you should overhaul them at the same time, that way your calipers should not need to be removed for at least another 5 years:YD

    I painted mine.....

while on the car. Its really no big deal. Just cover everything with newspaper and spray away. I didnt get any paint where I didnt want it to be.Cheers

just went and talked to the guys at jax.,..

.. they showed me how to bleed them etc, think i'll give it a go on good friday. doesnt look seem like too much hassle, and i can give 'em a good cleaning.

thanks for pointing us at the URL, i've printed the section and will have a look.

    Make sure you buy...

... a lot of brake fluid, it takes quite a bit to remove all of the air bubbles. I recommend at least 2 bottles extra just incase

    A suggestion!

after you paint them use File and file the surface of the raised letters "NISSAN" on the callipers they will stay shiny! But be gentle only take of the paing!;)

    Ive been using the castrol...

...high performance fluid and it does the job, but even the plain castrol fluid is good enough. If the mechanic did not mention it, dont forget to bleed the ABS unit. There is a thorough explanation on how to bleed the entire system in the online manual if you need a reference. Also, dont over tighten the bleed nipples, they break easily:YD

    caliper rebuild

I finally have my first Z, a 1986 turbo - the one I wanted since they came out. But no one in sunny NQ seems to be able to get me the brake caliper rebuild kit I need. Any suggestions on a good source?

    Crongatulations on the car....

...as for the rebuild kit, I could only suggest you try a decent brake repair centre to see if they can supply a kit or at least point you in the right direction
