Hey everybody time to start a work log of this mofo. I purchased this zed from forum member ketterz a year and a bit ago and I have had my fair share of zed reliability woes. Now that she is running smoothly I can start the upgrade and fix up process. Woohoo My goals for Christmas 2014 is respray, injectors, tune, ebc, race seat, half cage, harness and hopefully new wheels Here it is ATM before I pick apart the rear suspension to fix a few things. Here's what she has ATM Npower Dumps 2.5inch magnaflow exaust with racing cats Gfb MBC Gfb hybrid bov's UAS style eBay FMIC AMS oil cooler TEIN HA coilovers Ebay radiator with CZP silicone hoses Hard intake pipes DBA slotted rotors Too many sensors replaced that I want to think about Happy running at 12 psi ATM so smooth I love it! So a while back, I heard a rattle coming from the rear of my car.. under further inspection I found that one of the top hat studs on my coilover had snapped off (time to get a torque wrench I guess) regardless, I fixed it by 1. Taking the coilover apart by un-doing the centre nut on the shock 2. I then drilled out the old stud with my trusty cobolt drillbit 3. Then I slid in the new high tensile bolt (8mm) in the hole I just made and this was the end result 4. put it all back together and re-installed the coilover. ta-daa (this was before I cleaned up all the filings obviously)
Well next on my agenda has been prepping my bomex type 2 bumper for paint. I've discovered I don't actually mind sanding at all here's a pic, all ready for primer now With this bumper I'm planning on making some brake ducts and air guides and a splitter. Painting tomorrow with rattle cans. Let's see what I can pull off!
Still have to do a catch can, only happens at barbagallo our local track due to the high speed right turns. So I'm not really in any rush (kinda want to clean out my plenum tbh...) So I just finished the primer and base coat just waiting a bit before I clear. Probably won't ever bother with spray cans again. Coverage was shit, expensive and pretty average compared to what I'm used to with a gun. Won't last long on the track anyway but yeah.
so after using 1k acrylic clear.... 1 can was not enough - even after like 6 coats. so it looks terrible ahhhhh. what a waste of time. probably going to sand it with 2000 grit and try buff it anyway.. even though the clear really isn't thick enough. so I have learned that painting with aerosols doesn't really work (at least with the cans of 732 I got compressed at the paint shop, used 3 cans and that was BARELY enough). well it was worth a shot. I'll post pics up tomorrow after Ive sanded it etc. I'll be making up the front splitter tomorrow too if I decide to use the bumper.
pick up some cheap acrylic paints form supercheap/autobarn.. you got a spray gun? im trying to flog off some 3m acrylic for $50 (jet black with thinners) i think i paid $70 for 3L of black and 3L of thinners. rattle cans cost too much..
So here it is with the new bumper on. Not the best pic.. the clear failed, wasn't thick enough but its a learning process. Sanded it with 2k wet and now its more like a satin finish
Ta, always wondered should get some kind of splitter done this weekend. Also purchasing some 800cc sard injectors and looking for a cheap nistune deal.
