    Guys,

I am thinking about making a makeover for my red zed. The paint is faded on most of the car except the area that was hit by my neighbour and fixed by the insurance company. I was told that a Buff can restore the paint color/shine. What is the best way to restore color in the most affordeable way possible? Thanks.

I have heard baby oil works wonders on red cars. Either way, a cut and polish will definitely help with the paint fade. Just make sure you keep up the polishing on a monthly basis.

hey mate wat color is it? To make it look decent u will need to do a 3 stage buff. Buff whole car with coarsest pad first ( whool pad. Spelling? )with some 10/10 compound. Then use a yellow foam pad ( less coarse ) then glaze it with a black pad

I remember when I had my Corvette & the paint was pretty average with a shitload of mini swirl marks all over (it was black) & was saving up for a $7k paint job.
Long story short, I went to a mate of a mate who used to work for VIP car care & he done a cash buff job at his house for me for about $150 & I saved myself 7 grand cos it turned out so awesome - do it, see if it makes a huge difference - if done properly / professionally it will.

You can certainly achieve great results from a good staged treatment like vizard sugested

Any good painter is also a good detailer, its part of the trade. So do some research and find a well reputed spray shop in your area and let em do the hard work. doing a 3 stage detail on a whole car is pretty tiring and can get annoying after a while so just let them do it.

keep in mind it will not compare to getting it resprayed, and when you wash your car next some of the polish / wax will wash off and it will fade again.

I buff cars for Nissan every day, as Vizard said, it is very hard, long & tedious work and requires alot of attention to detail and patience. That being said, great results can be achieved.

The life of a detailer - can I be a pilot already lol..

unfortunately a lot of them aren't mate. i've been a detailer for 10 years and i regularly have to fix paint jobs that panel shops have chopped the hell out of with coarse cutting compounds, especially black and other dark glossy colours. like discus177 said, its a long and tedious job but, when done right the results are awesome.
Waz if you don't mind travelling i'd be happy to fix it for ya so shoot me a pm.

    potential issues

Being the age of the car is getting on, and with fading paint you can guarentee your paint wont have as much thickness to it as fresh paint. buffind can lead to issues if done by the wrong person and sometimes can damage paintwork without even trying with burn throughs, unless you have a micron test done there is no way to know how much paint is left on it to buff back. Reds are a common one to fade and come up amazing when rebuffed, Depends how far you want to take it though, you can get a quick outside blow over with new paint but then the dollars come into it. not sure how sydney is going price wise, I know of myself and a few other places that can paint cars on the cheap, but in this case to some guys cheap means cheap and nasty with cut corners. Food for thought but I would say if you already have a plan of potentially painting the rest just go get it detailed, and then if you run in to troubles you are already prepared for paintwork, may turn out that only one panel out of all needs a repaint.

As far as detailing goes, get a white pad with cutters I use Farecla for the first buff until satisfied with how much shine/scratches have been removed then hit it with a black pad and some polish then a final hand polish with some carnuba wax and your set to go
