bubbling hot water ??

hi guys ,

everytime i drive for a while and switch the engine off can hear like a sound from the under the bonnet which pretty much sounds like bubling hot water ,
any one know what that might be ?

could be your aiv's or coolant overflow tank. unless its leaking, i'd consider it normal.

 

yeah seconded.

it can be common for the aiv's to girgle a bit when still hot. not an issue as long as your not loosing coolant.

well it seems to only happen on a hot day or when i push the car a bit , i've just had a new radiator put in and all the hoses redone.

worrying a bit as the sound seems to be coming from around where the engine is and the vg is known to have heating issues ,

well if it is one of the causes mentiones what would a solution be ? and what exactly is an aiv ?

a new rad put in eh? i wouldn't rule out air pockets?

 

my thoughts exactly, KaRmAsUtRa have you taken the rad cap off, and filled with water while squeezing the top radiator hose in and out to let air out?

 

yes bubbling and gurgling sounds...well they sound nothing alike.
Car needs to be jacked up at the front to get rid of the air.
Guaranteed if not done air will be in there somewhere :zlove:

the VG does NOT have cooling issues....

thats something that Skyline or Silvia owners will tell you. The zed cooling system is just like every other cooling system. If its looked after it will not give you problems. If you slip on the maintenance then it will bite you in the arse.

after reading that you've just put in a new radiator and subsequently making a gurgling noise, i'd look at air pockets in your coolant system first. as said before, jack the front up or drive up on some ramps, take rad cap off, start engine for a while massaging the radiator hose for a while.
Then go from there.

 

the vg itself dose not hav overheating problems, the cooling system not properly maintained can hav heating issues, nothing to do with the engine itself!,

 

wouldn't it also overheat if it had air pockets in the cooling system?

 

not necessarily

but the chances of it overheating would be increased.

 

I had the very same issue years ago

... When parked after a 'good drive' and the engine switched off... there was a definate boiling/bubbling noise for several seconds.

Put the front of the car on stands/ramps... massage the pipes to the radiator...fill up coolant...

echo..echo..echo..

 

Ive also got this bubbling noise too, just thought it was normal, might have to jack her up n try what you mentioned.. thanks guys

 

Also check ...

1. Radiator cap and seat is in good condition
2. Expansion tank is full to the mark when cold
3. Expansion tank hose is not damaged or blocked

Any radiator repair shop or workshop can do a system pressure test, often FREE, and check for minor coolant loss (pressure drop) which would not only allow minor coolant loss whilst driving but also suck in air when engine cools.
