Boosty McBoost and the jets

    groonsnout boost = horn

    Well I forked out the $5 for a bag of welding tips (15 tips if anyone else wants some!) and apart from dropping a hose clamp and having to jack her up to get it, it took me about 15 mins to install these bad boys.

    and woah!

    I went the passive way of getting only 1.2mm jets instead of 1mm jets (anyone care to enlighten me on how much boost this is??) and it's boosting just about off the stock gauge.

    :) :) :) :) :thumbsup: :) :) :) :)

    love it!

    <sigh>

    hrmmm...get it chekt by someone to confirm everything is ok...because it might be boosting way over wat you want it to and keep going :wacko:

    It's all good!

    Its not crazy, but feels a good 15% more powerful. I'm going to run some g-techs on it tonight to confirm. Datascan says still very rich all the way up to 7000rpm under 100% throttle, and no pinging etc..

    I'm going to run dyno soon, except my guy here in canberra uses a dyno which bolts onto your hubs (chassis dyno??) Are these any good? better to go to your old fashioned one?

    one of them gives 12psi and one of them gives 14psi which one is which???

    but hitting boost just beyond the stock guage sounds like 14psi...

    confirm with someone else first....;)

    Should be about 12 psi

    just check it with a known gauge.

    1.2mm gave me no difference in boost pressure at all...>>

    I tried an assortment of different jets and even had to make a custom one to give me the pressure I wanted.

    I do get a variance of around 1 psi depending on the ambient temp and/or have been canning the crappers out her.

    1.2mm = stock boost
    1.1mm = 10 - 11 psi
    1.0mm = 11 - 12 psi
    0.8mm = 15 - 16 psi
    0.9mm = 13 - 14 psi (0.8mm jet drilled out with 0.9mm drill bit)

    What should be seen as apparent is that not all TT's respond to psi increases the same way with identical boost jets.
    EG: What may work well for one will not work the same for another.

    Cheers

    if the Wastegate Control Solenoids have

    been dissconected, that would remove all restrictions
    to the turbos, boost would drop to around 5lb, so 4lb off boost is lost, and to get it back smaller jets must be used.

    Draco The 1000 Man....

    1.2's

    gave me 11.9psi..
    i'm going to drill out a set of 1's to make 1.1 and see what that gives till i Hitec the ecu..

    :thumbsup:

    Good point but my Wastegate Control Solenoids are still connected.

    Easier just to but a set of 1.1mm jets

    They are safety boost soleniods and do nothing unless the car is in Safety boost.

    Disregard them if you havent removed them.

    0.9mm jets gave me....

    14lb.

    The in dash boost guage goes half a needle width over the last increment on the dial.

    I have my base advance set to 14 degrees.

    I have had nil detonation and heaps of power.....good stuff.

    It is a totally different car to drive now.

    You need totake care. I was on the highway doing 90km/hr wilst raining the other day, gave the right pedal a push down to over take someone and the rear wheel spun up all to easy. A bit scary!!

    * Re: Good point but my Wastegate Control Solenoids are still connected.

    When the det sensor detect's nock, it signals to the ecu that there is a problem, the ecu then signals the control soleniod to open a little, this drops the preasure to about 7psi which is safty boost. you might then deduce that the soleniod acts like a restrictor. So when the valve is closed you will see 9psi, when nock is detected 7psi, and when removed 5psi. So if they were removed to fit an EBC, manual controller, or boost jets, this should be taken into consideration!
