G'day, over the last week or 2 there's been a fair bit in my local news papers about the melb street drags that go on. I go there a fair bit just to spectate and watch the action, very happy i wasnt there a couple weeks ago! Some quotes from the articles "Before 60 police descended""358 vehicles where checked" the police blocked off every possible way out of the illegl meet, then busted it. they even had a helicopter there making sure you couldnt hide your car behind the factories. 358 vehicles times average of maybe 3 people per car, thats over 1000 people that were there! Just curious, is the illegal street drags this big in other states here in aus?? we get turn outs like that most thursday nights, and usally only 1 or 2 cop cars come and bust it, not 30! :-0 (here's 4 articles i scanned in, for your viewing pleasure ) [image]http://www.mustangmods.com/data/346/dragz1.jpg[/image] [image]http://www.mustangmods.com/data/346/dragz2.jpg[/image] [image]http://www.mustangmods.com/data/346/dragz3.jpg[/image] [image]http://www.mustangmods.com/data/346/dragz4.jpg[/image]
Dammit, just as i was about to start > attending... I only learned that these meets actually existed down here in Melbourne last week... quick1 - lemme know when you go down next, I might be interested in taking a look
trying to increase this years revenue before the end of the finacial year. Have noticed here in queensland in the last month police are everywhere booking people left, right and center.
sweet, where abouts in vic are you? ive only been going to these meets for about a year, but they have been going on since like my dad was my age :-0not last time i went, the time before i met up with PHATZX there, cops busted it so we just hung out chattin for a little while. We saw a few 300zx's go past.Im not going in the next week or 2 with this cop crack down, my car wont pass a roadworthy at the moment so im keeping it away lol
Lol - I'm in Keilor dude, but I don't mind > driving ANYWHERE... my ex-g/f used to live in Mt Eliza, and i'd cross that intersection they mentioned in the papers *every day*... I'm surprised I never saw anything out there We should meet up soon anyhow... I'm hanging to organise a Vic cruise, Dub's given me some enthusiasm... I used to do media at school, so methinks we all need to get our arses in gear and do a wicked video clip for each state...
eek! thats not too close only thing that sux about travelling to get to these illegal meets is, if you get there, and the cops have already busted it, you gotta wait like another hour before they are all gone and it starts back up, either that or it just ends for that night. I think i read somewhere that there might be a vic cruise to apollo bay, i went there in january, and felt really sick! I Never get car sick, but something about the route there made me feel so bad Driving i dont get sick, but being a passanger i do, ild love to come on the next cruise (if someone wanted to take me lol) but it aint worth it. And i think my gemi would look quite odd trying to keep up wtih 30 z's :-0
Man, I said... I *love* driving... I might be up your way today 'just for fun' I also love the drive to Apollo Bay, I go there a bit here and there... So if you're interested I'd love to come pick you up before hand... I haven't been on a cruise yet, so I'd love someone to share the experience with...Plus, with any luck we'll need a camera man
would love to but like i said the trip to apollo bay i get car sick! :| would be good going up there with you, and back with PHATZX (yeah ild just boot his missus out ).And yeah i love driving too, im sure ild love driving a 300zx a shit load more though hehe
Dandy drags have been $*it for a while i've been going since they started again sometime last year. Each week it go bigger. Some serious cars started turning up. About the past month it was left with just shitty cars, so i didnt bother going and i was also off my holiday break. This crowd are stupid they repetitively go up and down the same location i was just so suprised cops did nothing for this long.I have been going to another pretty organised drag, which are all in confined area and minimal cops, was originaly in west side but moved to east past few weeks. Last week was pretty bad as locations have all been found, so resulted with a larger crowd and more cops, and the thursday drags dont help either. So no idea where it goes next, i'm glad my car is not running and ive just been a spectator especially with the attention these past few weeks.
we have Drag meetings on fridays in canberra but we take precautions such as people down the only ways in and out carrying cb's just incase someone happens to come close coarse it still doesnt stop a speeding cop car and choppers but it helps if were in the middle of a drag
sounds like you guys been watching too much fast and the furious on DVD.Just remember, its not the way you stand by your gemini, its the way you drive your gemini
Gemini ??? if mines a gemini your not far off have a look at my car and have a look at yours. plus there are no legal drag areas in canberra the last one was closed down
He's on about me! i drive a gemini which is what hes on about And LOL jimmy, i dont stand by or race the gemini, i park it in a back street and walk up.
few reasons why people dont IMO people want something more local, where you can be closer to the action, and have constant action. calder park drags: cant sit that close, not as constent action, just dragging nothing else and how often is legal street drags open? i bet no where near enough for the guys really into it to get it out of there system regularly. illegal street drags: can stand up right where the action is (yes its dangerous), its constant action, not only dragging, but massive burnouts/doughnuts/standstills etc. Alot more convenient, dont have to travel to the other side of the city, then pay to get in. dont flame me, just my opinions, ive never done a burnout/drag or anything there, like 90% of people that go, i just watch.
my bad it was straight after my post and whats the problem with gemini's anyway i owned one for a couple of weeks and a mate of mine has one with a 13b turbo in it
On the track is the best better roads safer no risk of losing licensebut i think its obvious why people take it into their own hands.
consider what u type Thriller You are discussing illegal activity, on a public view able board. With an indirect association to our forum and members.
Good, shouldn't be doing it on public roads anyway.. there are proper places and organised events for that kind of thing without endangering other people. It's "events" like this that cause the rest of us grief and label us as "hoons" just coz we've got nice cars and push up those insurance premiums due to perceived risks.
