    Hi all

What is the best way to flush power steering on a TT (1989) and I'm going to change my name by deed poll to Pete Buggeredup not Pete Williams

At 1am in the morning when I finally got the Plenum back on my Zed a few days ago I also decided to top up the power steering fluid because it was low. I have a slow leak in the return hose. At 1am the clutch/brake fluid bottle came to hand and I topped up my reservoir with about 200 - 300ml of brake/clutch fluid and NOT AFT or PS fluid.

Needless, to say a full on day at Powercruise Tassie has forced the slow leak I had in the return hose to a quirting leak. I've siphoned out about 400ml of the approx 1.3ltr and then after draining 400ml I topped up with ATF to keep the system topped up.

There are NO weird sounds emanating from the pump and no leaks visible other than the one under the return hose so I feel I caught this in time.

What's the best way to flush the power steering system.

    Cheers, Pete
OH, PS I bought a Dremel to get the crimp off the hose so I can fix it but for now I'm taking a well earned break from working on my Zed. I'm parking the Zed for a few months other than 1 cruise soon. I have a nice Honda Integra as a daily so I'll drive that for a while.

Some places have portable machines, so if you're that worried about driving it, you can just ring around and they can pop over and do it for you :)

I think there are some vids on youtube.

Basically you pop the return line and have it running to a bottle, then run new fluid through the system.... keep running until you have the new fluid running out the return line.
