Yeah, that's right. The power steering oil absorbs a lot of heat when it cools your tyres. Just make sure you don't connect the flux capacitor to the jacuzzi - lots of people do that.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl: like it :)
So where are you up to with this build?

    Infill and some bodywork

I got a new third brake light from member Statikk (Brian). $200. woot! Came off of ZXDEVIL (Luke)'s '95 Aus-Spec which he unfortunately smashed :(

With much RAGE and smashing out of things in the way, i finally got it on :)

Chucked a spare cracked center panel in while I fix up my Altia one. So glad to have an infill panel!

Then I did some work shaving the wind deflectors.

This is how they were looking after the first round of bog came off...

Unfortunately I missed two little indentations next to the screw holes. Not sure what they do, but since I didn't take the paint off of them the bog didn't stick. Oh well, round two. I'm no pro at this stuff anyway so it's worth doing over and getting it right.

Then I went and found all these dents in the area just behind the driver's head... can't think how the hell they would've gotten there

More bog work. So I'm grinding away in prep, and what comes up...

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

BOG. BOG BOG BOG. EVIDENCE OF PREVIOUS DAMAGE REPAIR. ****. ****ING ****.

the car's as straight as Clint Eastwood with only some vague shopping trolley dents. I have absolutely no idea how damage could occur there...

oh well. bogged it up and I'll finish it when it dries.

Possible rust repair from a few years back.
Bogs a fun stuff to play with. ya learn a few techniques along the way.

Why the hell didn't you pull off the Rubbers and the Targa Hook? It'll make things easier and you won't ruin your Rubbers...

The rubbers aren't in the way - thin cut strips of sand paper. One strip of tape along them means even accidental brushes with the sand paper don't do anything. I have to pull the interior out to get the targa hook off!

That's a fair point about rust Graham. I hope it's just that.

Looks like seem sealer to me.. Protecting the spot welds and joining body panels wouldn't remove it but thats just my 2 cents

You think it's OEM? It's got the same colour as bog and was surrounded by dents.

I'm not there to see it but yeah it looks oem to me from the pictures.

My targa rubbers rub on the paint, and it is yellow underneath.

So the direction of this build has changed overnight!

The plan for the engine was to bolt on a full turbo back exhaust, a few pod filters, a FMIC and a boost controller and let 'er rip.

The problem with this is that is my turbo's. When the engine was out they were looked at. No shaft play, put back in.

The engine was compression tested, had everything replaced and was good to go. Gearbox shows signs of getting pulled apart. Diff was replaced with new in '09. Driveshaft is one-piece custom. The only thing to worry about there is the turbochargers. They're 21... and if it's 21 years old and on a Z32, it will break. And break spectacularly.

So that all changed when member WOKBURNER (Matt) made a thread saying he needed to clear some space. I picked up some free high-flow turbos. There's no such thing as a free dinner, so one of them is disassembled for a rebuild due to massive shaft play. The other is in one piece and has no shaft play whatsoever... hmm.

GCG Turbo's wants a ridiculous $990 per turbocharger for a rebuild. they want to replace everything, and won't even do just bearings and seals.

Forum member Geron has offered to help me recondition the turbos ourselves - for free! Just got to get the parts. Killer!

So the plan now is to get the rebuild kit later in the year after I've got my wheels fitted and a few other things sorted. I don't actually have the room to do an engine pull (small garage) so Emile has said he's happy to let me park the car in his garage for 2-3 days and use his crane while we pull the engine and swap the turbo's over :)

There's very little to do while the engine is out as it only went in 1200 kays ago. At the moment, the plan is as follows:

    1. New exhaust manifold gaskets
    2. New sump gasket due to the failure of my current one (stuck up with permatex)
    3. New dipstick tube as mine was damaged by the previous owner and leaking oil before being patched (requires engine pull and passenger turbo removal to replace)
    4. CZP idle air control unit silicon hose kit
    5. Silicon power steering hoses
All pretty simple stuff. Nismo 555cc injectors will also be going in, but that doesn't have to happen when the engine is out.

The only issue left is rego. Right now the car isn't roadworthy because it lacks a catback. The plan was to fit my dumps and front pipes, get cats and have an exhaust shop sticky tape it all together then go for rego. But with new turbos going in, messing around under the engine trying to get the dumps on is a massive waste of time. Unfortunately the front pipes I've got lined up won't bolt to stock dump pipes. so I can't go from there.

So the plan is as follows - either get the turbo's reco'd, tow the car to Emile's and put them in there, towing it back or find a stock catback for a 2+2, go for rego and then drive to Emile's. If I do the turbos before the blue slip, I'll be going for it untuned which won't be any fun. I reckon I'll throw a catback on there so as soon as I do the turbos I can put in the injectors and tune the untamed beast, with a quick stop off at the exhaust shop in between. Having the car registered is just a big relief anyway and is high on the to-do list.

With any luck I'll be getting around 270 rwkw. i'll just be happy not having old turbo's.

I wouldn't have said so. the metal underneath was definitely consistant - no seams or marks. they weren't spaced apart consistently and they all had different depths. have you got a 2+2? does yours have anything there?
