I believe that most heat related problems on a Zed can be traced back to the viscous fan hub not working properly. Also the flick test for the hub does not work. If in doubt when chasing heat related problems one of the first steps should be to replace or refill ( i have found that refilling works fine ) the viscous fluid then if that doesn't fix it try a new radiator ( or get it rodded ) and thermostat. I'm running a standard TT radiator and it doesn't over heat. Each year i drain and refill the viscous fluid as part of my pre-summer service ( for under $10 ). It's cheap enough so why not.
Just my 2 cents worth. Dave

Im running a newly rebuilt motor (done by pzp) + oversized ebay radiator.

The temp does climb a bit atm during the hot days when idling in traffic. Might have to do the viscous fluid and report back.

Getting an oversized oil cooler is also on my list.

Aircon is staying, I use the car as a daily driver.

My cheap 56mm Ebay radiator has done well on a heavily modified track driven zed with a thermo fan. You just got unlucky man, or I got lucky, either one.

For anyone's reference I think all the rads listed on eBay are from the same factory. Marcus at Car Craze here in Sydney stocks them as well for the lowest price, which is cool.

not just me either, gibbon tamer also told me he had to change due to his ebay rad leaking, hence why he has mishimoto now

Not sure of the model, but it was late 80's to early 90's, had the 7M engine.

That's fine, but blanket statements such as these are in-accurate.

The more power you produce, the more heat your producing, if there was any failures to be had linked to how "modded" your zed is it would be in it's ability to reduce the temperature adequately. Leaking eBay radiators are purely manufacturing flaws in either the necks and sealing surfaces or the welds. Has nothing to do with modding. Pressure in the radiators would be no different between stock and modded unless your cap is wrong or busted, and thats your problem, not the radiators.

I dare say that the % of people here, who have had failures on these radiators vs those who haven't would be in the minority.

Probably the worst time for overheating for a roadcar is idling in traffic on a Perth summers midday. So hot the tyres are melting into the bitchumen. Its not much of a matter if you have a stock VG or a 700hp VG. Idle is idle, not like your burning any more fuel for the extra heat.

An stock, cared for, uncloged, clean system with no leaks is the go.
