Bad 300ZX choices I've made

I've had a Zed for 10 years now. Well actually 2 over that period. Here's a list of bad decisions that I've made. Keep in mind that I think of my car as a classy cruiser and not a road racer.

    1. Energy suspension bushes. I had them all replaced in the first Zed and don't believe that it made much difference in handling. It did make a difference to the amount of road noise and harshness that was transmitted to the car.
    2. Non genuine fuel pump. Replaced with a Bosch unit to save a $100 or so. It pumped fuel fine but was much noiser than the stock unit it replaced.
    3. Lightened fly wheel. Great for racing but not for cruising. Engine revs faster? Maybe a bit. Engine revs drop faster? Definitely. Resulting in jerkiness when backing off the accelerator.
    4. Leather seats. Had leather retrimmed about 4 years ago. Despite doing my best to keep it clean and moisturised it is starting to dry out a little bit. Still looks good but not as good and soft as it used to be. I'd trim in fabric next time.
    5. Getting work done at a Nissan dealer. They sucked. Giant Nissan in particular. May be different now but they were terrible back in 2000.
    6. UAS X-Pipe and new cats replaced 2 smaller mufflers on each side (no cats previously). More drone than before.
    7. Buying another 2 Zeds for spare parts. It took me 2 and a half years to get rid of all of the junk.
    My thoughts only.

    Cheers,
    Evan.

    Kool.. thanks Evan.
It's good to learn from those who have gone before..!! (sounding all philosophical now)
It'd be good to hear from other, long term Zedders too. Good for the pocket and good for experience and the pursuit of Zed'dom...!!

    Go buy a camary. lol

But yeah modding car's is a tricky balance between what you want and what you get.

Surly there are some things you like about it?

Completely reverse of my experience. I replaced two resonators and an X-Pipe with a UAS X-Pipe. Got rid of all the drone

Good post Evan. It easy to get carried away and

jump on board with a new mod not knowing there may be unknown side effects.

Good points raised Evan - i think in a lot of cases some mods are made with people barely noticing the difference, but will say they have - hand on dick stuff if you catch my drift.

After owning one for a few years now, and having been a member on the forum for longer, you do become philosophical to an extent.

The amount of money wasted on taking the short cut, then you end up doing it properly later on anyway - should have saved the time and money and just done it right the first time.

Will these cars appreciate? Let's face it, they are a sportscar but they are also a Nissan. The number of these produced will make it very hard for these cars to increase in value. Add to that the fact that people are sticking fibreglass body parts, and hacking up interiors etc it definitely will not happen. I know i can't talk as i've done the bodykit, interior and paint thing but i'm in no way thinking mine is an investment - its there to entertain me. If i wanted to make money i would have wisely invested in something else.

Hindsight is a tricky thing though - good to have but not good to dwell on.

Absolutely. I've made many other decisions that I'm happy with, so regrets are easily out weighed by wins. Sorry if the post sounded like a whinge, it wasn't supposed to, just a reflection on the things that I've done that I wish now I hadn't. But all good, despite some recent disappointments. I'm still in love and can't see that changing. Cheers everyone :zlove:

R31 Gagz Harden the F#%K up!!

Renee just had her system installed which consisted of new extractors, two new cats, new uas xpipe and new rear magnaflow mufflers...going from a pretty much stock system with a big exhaust leak on one muffler outlet, it is now quite loud, which is to be expected...its a fairly good level though with a nice note but we both notice around 2k rpm it is VERY drony...feels like your head is about to explode ...once you get above that region its good again but I was quite surprised after reading all the claims that the uas xpipe removes drone.

Will have to get some pics and a video up anyway as it does sound nice :D

    Cheers!

Lol. It's running pretty well, thanks Kabir. As soon as I get the handbrake cable fixed, and possibly the sparkplugs cleaned, it should be even better.

    Go the mighty NA!
