I have an automatic transmission (with torque converter) on the floor of my shed. It has been there for about a year. Prior to that it was on the floor of another forum member's shed for probably another year. Prior to that it was in his Zed and functioning perfectly. It made way for a manual conversion. Does the gearbox or torque converter deteriorate in any way by just sitting around like that? Is there anything I should do to keep it in good nick?
LOL my friend. My blue Zed has an intermittent problem, which I am told is most probably the torque converter lockup mechanism. But it might be the box itself. Eventually I will get around to dealing with it, and then I will have a good box and faulty torque converter for sale, or vice versa.
So's mine... i get a harsh vibration now and again, sometimes it's barely noticeable, others it like its shaking the f@#kn car to pieces! 'sigh'
Make sure it has alot of fluid in it, then cover all openings to try and keep moisture out. Also raise it off the concrete if you can, maybe sit it on some timber.
If im storing an auto box for a lengthy period i will tip it up side down for a bit every 6 mths , otherwise the internals in the top of the box start drying out. Trev
